'07 OH RB Morgan Williams (Toledo walk-on)

Would it be fair to guess that if his grades were a bit better that he would have an offer already? Personally I would love to see him get an early offer from the staff to accompany Saine. There is certainly plenty of talent on the board at RB but his body type seems like the perfect match for us.

I think your guess is probably pretty accurate. I also have eagerly hoped that he and Saine would be the two RBs we offer in '07.

ND is listed as having offered Chris Rainey, Marc Tyler and Cedric Everson...all of whom project as potential RBs. The Tyler and Rainey offers are probably mere tokens so maybe ND is seriously looking at Williams as a RB in this class. They are also actively recruiting John Clay, Darren Evans, Robert Hughes, Dale Martin, Brandon Saine and Bradley Stephens among others, so that should tell you about what kind of prospect they think Morgan is if he gets an offer.

In my opinion, Morgan is the best "pure" RB in Ohio for 07

Just curious, but what doesn't Saine have Williams does? On the film that I saw of Saine, I saw a guy with amazing speed, good power and excellent vision. I cant remember if it was you or someone else who suggested moving him to DB, but that would be a waste of talent, IMO. He needs the ball in his hands.

Obviously the OSU staff thinks pretty highly of him...

I would agree that Morgan Williams is the best pure RB in the state as well. I think Saine is the best all-purpose RB in the state though. It would be a great combo to get both.

No doubt and I think very highly of Brandon also...but I don't see him as a dominant RB in college. That is purely my opinion based on limited film available as compared to what I've seen with Williams. Apparently, Brandon has great hands, so WR is not out of the question either. I just have questions about his running style, vision, and ability to make a hole when one is not available. These are all things that are obvious in Morgan Williams' film hence the designation of "pure" RB. Brandon is extremely effective in open space, but I need to see more between the tackles before I am convinced he is a Big 10 RB. I've heard rumblings of DB and WR for him in college, but he may very well become a great RB. This purely my opinion and absolute speculation based on that opinion...nothing concrete whatsoever.

That's why it's best to view all of these recruits first as "athlete" prospects; then as "speed" or "big speed" or "power" prospects; and finally as "position" prospects. I know that Grad and Wes and some others get the point, but too many people are trying to pigeonhole these recruits into a given position, when we should all realize by now that JT & Co. simply do not work that way. The staff looks for the best athletes, then tries to get a decent balance of speed, big speed, and power, then determines their best position after they get on campus. Sometimes it takes a while for the coaches to find a fit, or for a player to emerge at a given position. Remember that Troy Smith was returning kicks early in his career? Or Andree Tyree played OL, DE, and FB before finally excelling as a TE (albeit only for one game)? I could come up with numerous other examples.

Also, consider the fact that many kids play out of position in high school because their teams are thin, and the coach is going to put his best athletes at key positions such as QB or RB, when in fact many of those players might be better suited for other positions like WR or DB. Grant Schwartz, who played QB in high school for the betterment of his team but will likely play DB in college, was a prime exmaple of that, although it happens to many other kids.
