A little more information:

2 are killed, 4 injured in crash on State Rt. 2

PETTISVILLE, Ohio - Two Wauseon residents, one of them a teenager, were killed and four were hurt in a two-vehicle crash Monday night at a State Rt. 2 intersection between Archbold and Wauseon, authorities said.

David Mealer, 50, and Hollis Richer, 17, a family friend, were pronounced dead at the scene of the 9:35 p.m. collision on the German-Clinton township line, troopers at the Ohio Highway Patrol's Toledo post said.

Brock Mealer, 22, Mr. Mealer's son, was in critical condition yesterday at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said. Mr. Mealer's wife, Shelly, 47, and Elliott Mealer, 18, another son, were treated at the Fulton County Health Center, Wauseon.

According to the report, H. Edward Johnson, 90, was headed south on Fulton County Road 19 when his car ran a stop sign at Route 2 and collided with the Mealers' eastbound sport utility vehicle. The SUV flipped, went off the south side of the road, and landed on its roof, troopers said.

Mr. Johnson, who also was treated at the Fulton County Health Center, was wearing a seat belt, but at least four of the five in the Mealer vehicle were not, troopers said.

IMO, this is not the place for critique.
I didn't mean to sound critical, though I guess I did; just a reminder that bad things can and do happen when you don't wear seatbelts. Obviously the consequences were tragic, and it is a shame that tragedies must happen for many of us to remember to buckle up.:(

God bless Elliott and the Mealer family in this time of grief.

Injured Wauseon man has faith he'll walk again
23-year-old was in crash that killed 2

One of the most crucial numbers in 23-year-old Brock Mealer's life right now isn't on the tip of his tongue.

The Wauseon man who was injured in a Christmas Eve crash that killed his father and his brother's girlfriend thinks for a moment before saying he recalls a doctor putting the odds at 70 percent that he never will walk again.

That number, however, isn't getting much attention from Mr. Mealer.

It's the other 30 percent he was concentrating on from his bed in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center yesterday.

"I really believe I'll be able to do it," Mr. Mealer said.
