'08 VA OL Kyle Long (Florida State baseball - Saddleback College - Oregon signee)

Would not surprise me if this was part of a recruiting ploy to land him.
SC sees us offer him as a O-lineman, so they say, "We think you have a great future as a DE!" Other schools have used a similar tactic.

Do we even have an offer out to a DE(that we have a realistic shot at)?

Maybe if Jenkins is now part of the offensive line class, Long switches over to the defensive side(or visa versa).

Just throwing this out there...

Kevin Koger has an offer as a TE/DE, but word is we like him more as a DE...

We'll take Long and let him play wherever... There's no concern about that...

I forgot about Koger. He's the only one though right?

It'd be nice to have a prospect that could play either tackle position or al four spots on the dline. You don't see many high school juniors with the athleticism or build(or bloodline in this case) for that.

Now that I think about it, Long may be one of the more underrated prospects in the country just because of this. He can play six different line positions in college. That's just sick when you think about it.

Agreed but if(or maybe when) we get Jenkins, it will be interesting to see how hard we pursue and if he plays football. I think the fact that Jenkins could play DT and Long could play DE would enable us to take all 5.

Somewhat out of left field...Lord knows that if Brewster hadn't committed today, the doomsdayers would be out in droves regarding this news.

Well, the doomsayers will have even less to complain about after tomorrow!
Anything beyond Shugarts will truly be icing on top of the icing.
Since Kyle's so serious about baseball, this development makes sense for him. Just never know what's going to happen with the FSU coaching situation as JoePa and Bobby Bowden try to outlast each other. There are already signs that this is having detrimental effects on both programs.

With Shugarts to verbal tomorrow and Jenkins possibly in the bag(that's the word anyways), I think it seems as if the staff may go a different direction.

I would think we would still pursue Long hard up until a jenkins committment - we would still certainly take Long if he wanted to committ (wouldn't we?) -but wouldn't recruit him hard after that.
I would hope that the staff isn't "banking" on a Jenkins committment as long as he remains committed to WV. They say that the burned hand learns best, and we certainly got burned enough last time around! Hope they haven't forgotten already.
If there's one thing you can count on in recruiing, it's that there isn't much you can count on.
