'09 UT OL John Martinez (USC Signee)

I'm sure that Chris Watt isn't afraid of competition....

Me either...besides, Mewhort's versatility will help out. Jack can play anywhere on the OL. If we happen to land Martinez, we could play Mewhort at center, Martinez and Linsley at guard, and Watt and Hall could play tackle. I think there is enough versatility to mix the guys up. However, add that to Brew, Shugarts, and Adams, and that is some serious competition.

Seems the kid is genuinally interested in Ohio State.

Can't say I got that impression. Sounds to me like a token visit because we're a brand name school. The good news, however, is he is visiting and we'll have an opportunity to make a big impression on him. We'll have a lot of our commits at that camp working on undecided prospects which could also help.

Ohio State has made [strike]five[/strike] six or seven OL offers ... and Martinez is one of them.

Martinez has four top schools ... and Ohio State is one of them.

Martinez is traveling 2,000 miles on his own dime to see Ohio State.

Hardly sounds like a "token visit" to me.

Even though Southern Cal is the team to beat, there has to be legitimate mutual interest, or neither side would be pursuing the other right now....

Maybe but his comment about his official visits made it sound like he is very likely to stay out west. Like I said, the important thing is he is visiting which will give us a puncher's chance.

Martinez does not have an offer from Ohio State, but the Buckeyes remain in his top four along with USC (leader), UCLA, and LSU. John discusses his visit to Ohio State's camp yesterday. He will decide after his senior season.

After yesterday's performance, it will be interesting to see whether the Buckeye staff offers Martinez ... and where Ohio State would be on his list if the staff did offer him.

Couldn't possibly be true. Ohio talent is overrated. Look at the last two championship games for proof...

Anyways, I'm thinking that maybe Martinez had a bad day, because his film was VERY impressive. Then again, that could also have been due to the fact that he's playing in Utah, where I'm guessing the competition is less than stellar.

It would have more to due, IMO, with the ability shown out of the "others" not Martinez having a "bad day."

A few of the "others" just surprised a bit...

To travel 2,000 miles to camp without an offer speaks volumes. USC is still the front runner but if the Bucks offer it could get interesting.

ESPN - Barkley locks on with big targets at USC Rising Senior Camp - Insider

Martinez looked very good throughout the day. He is not very big, but he moves his feet very well. If he can add weight on his frame and keep his quickness, he could be an excellent college lineman. Su'a Filo lined up often at tackle and had some trouble early on, but looked much sharper in the afternoon practices displaying the ability to adjust and learn. We feel the better fit for him will be at guard at the college level.
