It's not so much the question of whether or not Beanie would have made the difference, but why the staff so criminally misused the other backs. Why the hell did we start Boom when we have a "big, strong, north-south runner" like Maurice Wells, who barely even played?

I don't know if you're being sarcastic there (I heard that quote about Mo Wells last night while watching the game or maybe after it ended), but I think Boom is a far superior back to Mo Wells. Year in and year out, all I've seen Mo Wells accomplish is not fumbling the ball and running it up the center for 1-2 yards per play.

Jesse Palmer is such an idiot. He just called Maurice Wells a "big north south runner", which is pretty much the antithesis of what Maurice Wells' running style. :smash:

Hey ESPN, in order to find a new Herbstreit, you have to get someone who is SMART, LIKE KIRK HERBSTREIT!!!
Pretty-boy Palmer got his Wells mixed up.

Pete has been pounding Michigan, ND, quality OOC opponents, won BCS bowls, and won a NC (or 2). I am not saying he is necessarily a better coach than Tress but the upsets is just a blemish when you consider he has the best record in recent seasons and he deserves to be considered in the Top 3 coaches. He shouldn't be knocked off his pedestal for losing to Oregon State, especially after they just beat the bejeezus out of us. Your baseline seems to be not losing, ever.

No, I'm pretty sure that his baseline is not losing to 25 and 41 point underdogs, ever.

I would absolutely love to hear what Bill Plaschke has to say today.

Right. He had that one long run against Michigan a few years back... He was from Louisiana... Akron, LA, I guess... it's near Florida... and Georgia. Anyway, it's that guy. Stud.
Terrible post, I disagree. He was from the Bahamas... extreme southern speed.

Those same years:

2006: W against SEC (Arkansas), Big12 (Nebraska), highly ranked Notre Dame, and bowl win vs. Big10 (Michigan)
2007: W against Big12 (Nebraska), highly ranked Oregon, highly ranked Arizona St., bowl win vs. Big10 (Illinois)
2008: W against Big10 (Ohio State)

If there is one thing a college football fan should know it is that upsets are most likely to occur within the conference for two reasons:
1 - The amount of conference games played
2 - Teams in the conference know each other better than opponents in OOC gamesl.

Not one of those losses took place in LA and most of those BIG wins did.

One more reason to get the BCS bowls more geographically balanced.
