'10 CA QB Nick Montana (Washington Signee; transfer to Tulane)

He has about 8 minutes of film in his scout profile, if you have access. And YES, he would have offers if his last name weren't Montana. Probably has a stronger arm than his old man, and he's very accurate. Also throws well on the run and he's a solid athlete. LOVE the offer, and I'd take him over Gardner in a heartbeat.

Kind of wish the staff would choose an offense and stick with it, though. Montana can run, but he's more of a pro-style or traditional spread qb. Not sure he fits in with the kind of offense we're supposedly going to with Pryor in the next few years.

And what kind of offense would that be? Yeah, there will be some more options than normal, but Tressel is set on making Pryor a solid passer as he did with Troy Smith. How many times did Troy run in his senior season? Pryor is being molded into a passing QB who will run when he absolutely has to, and once in a while to kept defenses honest. I'd say Nick Montana would fit right in...

After thinking about it longer than 3 minutes, he'd be excellent at running the same Troy Smith system. I think Todd's lack of mobility scrapped that plan, and Terrelle's inexperience and raw throwing ability made him unable to execute it.

I think Montana could probably run the spread Troy ran with great efficiency....

I think the offense we'll use with Pryor for the next 2-3 years will look more like the Vince Young Texas offenses than the Troy Smith offense. JT is no dummy...Pryor's best attribute as a quarterback is his legs, and he isn't going to take that away from him. He will obviously try and mold him as a passer, but there is no way he only runs "once in a while".

However, I do think the TS offense is more like what you'll see after Pryor is gone. Montana would definitely fit in there, as will Braxton Miller.

Maybe they should entice Barry Sanders Jr to join the Buckeyes :evil:

But seriously, I always liked Joe Montana. His kid may not be the mobile QB like Pryor, but his dad was able to move and this kid seems to be able to move his feet too.

Add to that the genes and probably the extra coaching he's had all his life from his dad, this would be an AWESOME get.

It sounds like Montana (I like the sounds of that) would make a fine QB in S&G.

As far as whether tOSU will use a run first, throw second type QB, I have to side with the group that says it will be a passing QB who can run. That is what TS turned into after he got into studying film and learned not to tuck and run at the first sign of pressure.

TP was a 50/50 type this year, but I chalk it up to his inexperience (much likes TS's soph and early junior campaigns) If you think about it JT has used some QB draws with Krenzel and even TB to keep defenses honest, and Lord knows neither of them were speed demons.

If Nick does decide to attend tOSU, I'm sure he'll find an offense to his liking. A group of big mobile linemen to protect him and an arsenal of versatile speedy backs and recievers to get the ball to.

From the ND site. Nick says that in spite of his dad, he is not a lock to Notre Dame and is looking around. This weekend he will be at Ohio State, who has made it clear that he is their guy for '10. He will focus on academics, and his comfort level at the school when making his choice.
