'10 CA QB Nick Montana (Washington Signee; transfer to Tulane)

I haven't seen any of Nick's film and pardon me for asking but if his last name was not Montana, would people still be as high on him?

The fact that his older brother is a walk on at his father's alma mater should tell you that coaches are not in the business of doling out offers based on pedigree.

I don't have a lot of confidence that Montana is going to come east of the Mississippi. Is there any mutual interest with USC?

Is he a better prospect than Gardner? seems like if we slowplay Gardner we could lose him, when Montana is a longshot i would think.

Montana's not the long-shot that most think... His brother's at ND, so I don't think coming this way is a problem for the family... I'm sure Joe still has plenty of family in PA as well...

I don't believe there is much mutual interest with USC right now... I think Joe's smarter than to let his kid go somewhere that already has 3 5* kids positioned ahead of him...

true but qb depth has not held USC back in the past from landing 5* talent

Qbs play there 1-2 years and are 1st round picks. and even if they don't play they get drafted (Cassell).

Are you telling me that if USC put the full-court press on him, you'd feel confident that we'd win that recruiting battle?

Who knows... But Nick wouldn't have the opportunity to start 3 years at USC like he would here...

Tough to say what Nick's timetable is, but if the staff is willing to do what they're doing, they must be pretty confident they can close him early and go toe-to-toe with anyone else out there...

I think if tOSU started this class of with a guy like Nick it could get a lot of intrest for other recruits who would want to play with Joe Montana's son. Big visit this weekend.

I understand what you are saying, but I don't think the name Montana has as much of a wow factor with today's kids as it does with us 30 somethings.

From his father's viewpoint, not going to Ntre Ame is one thing. But to have his son go to their biggest rival, USC, is quite another. I could see Joe steering his son away from USC so he doesn't have to root for the enemy.

I'm 24. If I was a high school football player and you told me I could go play with a top QB prospect named Patrick Bradshaw or Matthew Staubach my interest would definitely be piqued, even though I wasn't alive for a game their fathers took a snap in.

I hadn't considered that aspect, and that is a good point. we shall see.

how does Montana stack up with Devin Gardner from a prospect standpoint?

Just my personal opinion, but Montana if far more polished of a passer than Devin... Devin is a one-of-a-kind athlete still learning to play QB... Nick is polished and is not a slouch athletically by any means... Nick is the more complete QB judging by what I've seen and been told...

Hearing the same things....

If you think the pull of TP to OSU has been great...imagine the names Montana and Carter being on the roster...
