Golden not in a rush

Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern junior guard Trae Golden said he "rushed" the decision when he committed to Ohio State University towards the end of last summer.

So, now that he has re-opened the recruiting process Golden said he's in no rush to pick a college.

"I think I did rush it," he said last week in Cincinnati at the adidas Ittakes5ive Classic. "I feel like I made my decision too early. I just made it too fast."

The 6-foot-1 Golden is considered one of the top point guards nationally in the Class of 2010. He said he's "wide-open right now."

"It could be anybody," Golden said, noting many of the schools that had been recruiting him before his commitment have been in contact. He said the University of Kentucky, which had offered him a scholarship last June, had been on contact and we're "pretty much in the mix."

Georgia Tech, Florida and Georgia figure to be among the top schools interested in Golden, while he said Ohio State is not out of the question. He said he had also been in contact with North Carolina and UCLA.

"I am just not going to rush it at all," he said. "I feel like I didn't make the right decision before because I went too fast."

Dispatch

But Sullinger disputed the perception that Golden is history when I asked him whether he would work on persuading Golden to re-commit when they?re together the next few weeks.

?He wants to be a Buckeye. It?s obvious. But he did what he had to do,? Sullinger said. He said Golden re-opened his recruiting ?just to make sure Ohio State was the place.?

Time will tell. Golden has 15 months, until November 2009, before he can sign a binding national letter of intent with a school, and a bunch -- mostly in the Southeast -- are after him.

Golden feels he rushed into a verbal and wants to take his time and ensure he is making the right choice. Golden is not sure when he will make a decision. Trae is being contacted by Kentucky, Texas, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Wake, Florida State, UCLA, USC and a host of other schools. No mention of tOSU.

Vols land 2010 point guard
Steve Phillips Updated: 9/16/2009

Tennessee basketball coach Bruce Pearl has had a difficult time finding a point guard for his 2010 recruiting class. That all changed Wednesday night.

Volquest.com is reporting that point guard Trae Golden committed to the Vols during Pearl's in-home visit. The 6-1 guard had been committed to Ohio State during his junior year, but reopened his recruiting some time back.

Golden said a visit to Knoxville last weekend helped him decide where he wanted to play college basketball.

"I really had my mind made up already that I was going to commit tonight," Golden told Volquest.com moments after making the decision. "Coach Pearl didn't really have to give me any big speeches or anything, I was ready pretty much after the visit this weekend."

Tennessee had gotten and lost commitments from point guards Aaron Craft and Josh Selby in the past few months. The Vols had recruited Golden before his commitment to Ohio State, and had a commitment from his AAU teammate, Jordan McRae.

"It's a great opportunity for me at Tennessee," Golden told Volquest of the need at point guard.

It looks like Trae has graduated and will be playing elsewhere this upcoming year.

"I had a great three years here at Tennessee, but I plan to play my senior year somewhere else this fall," Golden said in the release. "I really appreciate the staff and all the great support from Vol fans. I'm definitely going to miss my teammates. I want them to have nothing but success in the future."
