'10 OH RB Erick Howard (Ohio U Walk-On)

Howard had TD run of 15, 14 and 1 in Hoover's 30-20 win over Canton McKinley. I'm not sure of his total yardage for the game, but he's have a HUGE junior season.

I can't wait to see more film from this season...

Game Review | Ohio High School Football | Friday Night Ohio

Junior tailback Erick Howard led the offense with 188 rushing yards and three touchdowns on his way to 270 all-purpose yards on 44 touches.

"It all starts with the boys up front," Howard said, referring to his offensive line that controlled the line of scrimmage. "They got it going."

defense

Howard has a huge impact on the game defensively as well. You get an even better sense of his ball skills, quickness, and toughness when you see how dominating he is from the middle lb position, even at 205, which is a little undersized for a big school backer. He is having a great year in a league typically known for its defensive toughness against defenses that are designed to stop him.

Check ScoutingOhio game highlights... they got some stuff from the McKinley game.. I like what I see from Howard.. He's one of those "it" guys IMO.. doesnt have any one skill that makes your jaw drop, but just was born to be a RB.. you need to convert a 3rd and three, he'll get you four.. you need a big play to swing momentum, he'll break one.. Fourth and goal from 1.. he'll plow ahead and get you six.. Just a natural back.. and IMO, he's a Top 10 guy here in the early going.

Erick had a huge night last night vs. Massillon. He had 200 yds on 39 carries, 2tds and about 60 or 70 receiving yards. The play of the game was his game-winning 49 yd TD with about 6 broken tackles including J.T. Turner on his back at about the 10 yd line and Erick shaking him off.

BTW, word is Tressel was at the game last night for Howard and a couple Massillon players.

He does seem small on film, but is not the case. Howard is physically impressive without pads. Enormous legs and an equally muscular upper body, hence the multitude of broken tackles every game.

The fact that Hoover is in the regional finals again is amazing. They lost a ton of senior talent and leadership coming into this year, but Coach Hertler has gotten the absolute most out of this group of kids. Players like Tim Hartzell, a 6'1 185 lb defensive end, have stepped up huge. That being said, without Howard, this team would have been in big trouble offensively. If Hoover can beat Glenoak, they will most likely play national powerhouse Cleveland St. Ignatius. That would be a huge test for Hoover and Howard.

2304 yards!? He must have got all those yards in between the end zones. Talk about a bend but don't break defense.

I really like Howard...There are some big time backs like Ware, Brown, the kid from GA(Mack? can't remember off the top of my head) and Roderick Smith...

He might be the #2 guy we take in the class or something, but I think if the grades check out, which I think he still has improvement to do, he will probably see an offer...

My sentiments exactly. I want Ware and Brown...if either fall through, I want Smith. However, Howard would be a nice option as well. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do against a great St. Ignatius defense.

I've posted this everywhere I've seen talk of Howard, but there is no doubt in my mind that he is OSU caliber.

He just has IT. He has great vision and good feet. Not over the top as far as speed or build, but his vision makes him special. A combo of Ware, Howard, and Corey Brown as an athlete would be perfect for next year.

It's November folks, there will be numerous backs to come into the picture as the months move forward, why are we limiting ourselves to deciding between Howard, Ware, Smith, and Brown?

This time last yr, was anyone even discussing Berry and Hyde?

I'll wait awhile longer before crowing these four kids mentioned as the pecking order for OSU RBs in 2010
