'11 IN DT Kris Harley (Virginia Tech Signee)

Camp is ideal to see a recruits true height, weight and athleticism. In the end film never lies. 98% of the player evaluations are done via film. I'm sure the staff has seen something that has caused them to pause. There may be other recruits simply ranked higher on their board.

Film is important but I can tell you the staff loves to see the kids in person. Many a times borderline guys got their offers after the staff saw them in person at a track meet (Nathan Williams) or a basketball game. With a 265 lb. DT, assessing his frame in person would be very important. With that said, I do think his film warrants an offer but I could understand if the staff waits a little.

2011 - wheres the beef?

An out of state player that fans saw on film and got excited about is Kris Harley from Indianapolis. His parents are both Ohio State grads. We had a discussion about him a few weeks ago on the Bucknuts board with insiders on one side and fans on the other. He is 6-2 265. I have seen him listed at 6-0. Insiders had questions about his size. Fans saw a ver explosive player with a motor that will not stop. A very instinctive player. He can ball like nobodys business but what is going to happen when the weight comes on? He comes off the ball like he is shot out of a cannon but he cannot play inside at 265. What happens to that explosiveness when he is 285 or 290? A very recent offer from USC has fans worked up again. I wonder if the staff has seen Harley up close. I would not offer him unless I saw him in person. Get a look at his body and see if he can handle the weight before I would offer. I don't have a question about Clark and Bennett in that respect.

I don't want to beat on the staff here, but I will say that if they are going to pass there is a lot of evidence saying they shouldn't...DT's that come along that like your school don't always happen, and i know there are some Ohio kids, but the more the merrier IMHO...Take 4 if they are the right 4...See who pans out...Guys like Bennett, Farris could see time on both lines, Lynch could go TE if we offer there, Hayes, Miller might get big enough to drop down...

If a kid would love to play for you and they have offers from Oklahoma, USC, and maybe Florida and Alabama then it is a real head-scratcher if you don't offer him.....especially considering it's at a position of need.

Actually, it's not that big of a head scratcher. They know they could have had Harley and they choose not to offer him (at least at this point). That tells me they have questions and concerns about him. Unless you don't trust out staff's evaluations then you shouldn't have a problem with this.

It looks to me that our staff clearly is targetting bigger Dlinemen, with frames to add good weight. Harley is a smaller Dlinemen and our staff has questions whether he can keep his explosion and production level when he adds 20-25 pounds.

The last season and a half we've been asking our front to play some 3-4 type looks, we've been asking them to hold the line when we use our 5 DB packages. The linemen need to be bigger and stronger for us to do this. Bringing in a 6'2" linemen who weighs 265 pounds and has a questionable frame to add good weight doesnt seem like a fit in our system.

I'm not saying that if the staff doesn't offer him then it's not without good reason......I'm just saying if we don't offer him and all those elite schools do, then what is it that we see that caused us not to offer? that's the head-scratcher.

Last year everyone was baffled as to why we didn't offer LaTwan Anderson early when everyone else did, but we know the answer to that one.

Interesting cause you usually criticize those who question the staff with other recruits.

False. I criticize how some go about questioning it or their overall attitude about Ohio State in general.

This isn't about that though...so back to Harley.
