Evaluation

April, 2009: Jakarr is a super long combo forward. He is continuing to increase his skill level and his comfortability away from the basket. He will probably be a 3 at the next level. Offensively he is a solid ball handler for his position and a great handler for his size and youth. He is a good slasher to the basket and is a decent shooter to 15 feet (though his range seems to increase weekly). Sampson is a decent rebounder but he definitely needs to get stronger in order to improve in this category. His length and athletic ability make him a solid defender in the post. He is surprisingly effective in space. He moves his feet pretty well for his size. As Jakarr continues to develop and improve, his stock will continue to rise. He could become an elite prospect in the 2011 class.

It is good to see a update on an Ohio kid. I had been waiting to see Jakarr's name appear because I have heard that his game is coming along nicely and it would never hurt to get a recruit from Lebron's alma mater:)

Five of the 2011 recruits (Beal, Cook, Randle, Williams and Zeller) visited campus for the football game against USC on Saturday.

The next one on campus, and likely next to be offered, is expected to be Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary forward Jakarr Sampson, who told Rivals.com he will attend the Illinois game Sept.26. Sampson received an offer from Michigan State after visiting there last weekend.

Who's been offered? (Hoops & Scoops: an OSU basketball blog)

Six (and 106,000 more) in the 'Shoe on Saturday

Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary forward Jakarr Sampson and Chillicothe post Malik London will be joined by four guards visiting campus this weekend for the football game against Illinois.

Sampson, 6 feet 8, just received an offer from Michigan State while visiting there, according to Rivals.com, and heard former Lakewood St. Edward star Delvon Roe extol the advantages of playing for coach Tom Izzo.

BN $ - Mighty Important Hoops Recruit

10/3

By Rapp...Sampson's family friend talks about meeting with the staff at the Illinois game and about the pickup games Jakarr played at The Schott...says they did not liike the Cameron Wright situation but that it won't have an impact on Jakarr.

That Wright situation is one of the reasons why Price went to Louisville and. That situation has left a bitter taste in the coaches and kids mouths in NEO.

If kids are picking other schools just because of what happened in the recruitment of another player, I do not think that it's the only reason why they would not come to Ohio State. When it comes to recruiting, all coaches carry some type of baggage but it is probably not known to Ohio kids.

Anyone else find it kind of ironic Price is going to Louisville considering that Pitino couldn't even stay faithful to his wife? Seems to me like that says more about a coach's character than changing directions in a recruitment. If he'll cheat on his wife there's a chance he'll betray a recruit.

Nevertheless, it's good to hear that Sampson is keeping an open mind regarding his decision.

Anyone else find this to be a non sequitur? How Pitino (or Matta) treats his marriage vows has little relation to how they treat their players. (And frankly, how they treat recruits has little relation to how they treat the players once on campus.)

That's a good question MaxBuck. In one sense I agree with you that one doesn't necessarily begat the other. But sleazebags who are willing to lie, cheat and stomp on their family obligations are probably used to weaseling out of any tight situation with lies, professionally or personally, and may not necessarily be limiting it to fidelity issues only. I wouldn't trust a word Pitino says at this point and do think its germane to a recruit's evaluation.

This is one area where Tress stands out. I don't think Matta suffers in that department either.
