If Pitino had a history of ethical lapses, I could see your point. But he really doesn't, and he's been coaching long enough that if he had, it would be evident by now.

He seems awfully dedicated to two things, playing outside in college ( he harps on playing in the blocks in high school a lot ) and going to a smaller school with smaller class sizes. Both of those themes show up over and over in his interviews.

We don't need another PF sized guy who doesn't want to play inside, wouldn't be a good fit anyway.

I think he could easily fit into this class not necessarily as a 5 player but that's a power type guy. Right now we have three open scholarships for next season, including Scott, and with the highly likelihood that Buford will be leaving after next season Sampson could be a very nice fit. We also don't know if Thomas and Sully will be staying one or two years. However, if he is not interested, I guess we move on. We shall see.

Actually, with Matta's 4 out 1 in offensive schemes, PFs who can play on the wing are desired.

He is not a PF who can play on the wing. He is another in a long line of kids who have PF size, and bodies, but do not want to play any inside. They want to play SF and shoot 3's and not get their noses bloodied. We don't need that type! It's hard to get much production or value from them, and they don't fit in to the B10-wars mentality.

Thomas is a PF who can play wing, he will fit in great here. He's aggressive, doesn't shy away from contact or playing inside, and rebounds with authority. That's what we need in a PF. Royal looks like he fits that description as well. He's the guy I want in this class!

Jakarr Sampson is going to visit the Louisville sometime soon.

The 6-foot-8 small forward from Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary said the Cardinals are "coming on strong" and wanted to visit with his friend and U of L commit Zach Price on Monday.

Sampson?s AAU coach, Don Anderson, said a schedule conflict with a team camp has changed the original plan. But Sampson still wants to "get down there."

"I want to get to Louisville and see for myself," Sampson said on Friday during the National Basketball Players Association Top 100 Camp at the University of Virginia. "I've heard a lot about it and want to get a feel for it myself."

Sampson is ranked among the top 70 prospects nationally - No. 60 by Scout.com and No. 68 in the Rivals.com - and was ranked as one of the top 10 wings at the NBPA Camp by Hoop Scoop editor Clark Francis.

He's also considering Xavier, Baylor and St. John?s and said several other schools are in the mix. Sampson wants to make a decision just after the summer AAU circuit.

"I am just working hard on my game now," he said. "I feel like my game is versatile. I can do many different things and now I just need to keep getting better."

Sampson said there are several factors playing in U of L's favor including his friend Price, who is from Lakewood (Ohio) and will be transferring to Louisville for his senior year.

"That's my dude," Sampson said. "We hang out all the time and that will play a big part. . . . I like they're playing style. They get out and run and have an up tempo style. It fits my style of play and I like it."
