(12) Ohio State vs. (24) North Carolina - CBS Sports Classic - Sat 12/20 @ 1pET

Everyone always freaks out after one half like we are a terrible team. UNC shot over 50% in the first half, some of that was due to poor defense some of that is just the shots falling. Normally things even out over the course of a game. I'm not ready to start looking at the NIT field just yet

Freaking out? This is the second game OSU has played against a top 25 team, and just like the first time they continue to play slow, lost, and weak. This is becoming a consistent thing.

Agree with the above, but man, I just have not gotten the same feeling watching this team so far that I have for at least 4 years. I just don't feel as excited, and the team (outside of Slam) has no one that gets me excited watching them play. Scott in the zone just is not as exciting, and even the shooters aren't making me go "wow" when they're on.

Maybe that will change as the season goes on, but right now, I have a thoroughly "meh" feeling watching this team.

EDIT: The "above" comment was meant for @OHSportsFan's post, but could also apply to @SEREbuckeye's post as well.

Btw, even for my pessimistic/realistic basketball viewpoint and seeing this team's weaknesses...I disagree strongly with the "not a tournament team" and "least fun to watch" comments.

They aren't a tournament team right now at least. Maybe (hopefully) they'll improve. Most of Matta's teams do throughout the year (last year was an aberration)....

I mean, c'mon. Buckeyes are in and will finish top 5 in the Big Ten. They are probably a fringe Top 25-30 team right now. Plus, watching a guy like Russell when he gets going (as he will this 2nd half) is a good time.

Definitely a frustrating first half but it'll get better.

The zone needs to go. The offense has no flow. They aren't playing team basketball yet. UNC is and it showed.

I don't know if they're top-5 in the B1G either. I think they'll finish somewhere in-between 5th thru 8th. I foresee something like .500 in conference and a 20-11ish record pre-B1G tournament.

This. It's way too early to make any definitive judgements about this team. I've seen Matta pull off enough turn arounds after early season drubbings to make me more than hesitant to write off any of his teams.

The second half at Louisville the Buckeyes outplayed the Cards so to call it a "consistent" thing is a bit premature. I think people see a ranking and expect too much early on from a team with a number of young players. OSU will improve as the season progresses.

Agreed. I think the season will bear out that UNC is more the fringe top 10 team and OSU is more the fringe top 25 team (i.e., the rankings should be flipped). In that sense, it's really not surprised a team like UNC is up double-digits on a neutral floor, and OSU was probably lucky to lose by single digits to a top-5 Louisville team on their floor.

What was the reasoning behind running a zone this season? You are never going to get past the sweet 16 when running a zone unless you base your whole program around it like Syracuse. It's like Matta threw in the towel before the season even started.
