'13 FL P Johnny Townsend (Florida Signee)

The thing that makes me wonder is that Florida has 4 punters on the roster. One for a fact is on scholarship and is an upcoming junior that has played last two years.

One has a profile that is a walkon but the other 2 don't say walkon or scholarship but they are both underclassmen.

Speaking strictly about his decision, what is there to wonder about? Florida offered him a ride, that's where he wanted to go.... so he took it. What does he care how many punters are on the team? May seem kind of silly to have 4 punters but hey you can bet they are whooping it up in Gainesville about taking anything and anybody from Meyer.

Maybe that's true, and for the most part it really doesn't matter now. But do you think we'd give any other team the benefit of the doubt here? Not likely.

I'm just saying it seemed like a sure thing that he could start 4 years here. Who knows how many he will start at Florida if any.

Agreed... My point and my first post was pointed mainly at the people that were basically saying, the only way he picked Florida over tOSU was if Meyer asked him to grey shirt, pulled his ride, or we didn't have room for him. I think... and the video I posted makes me think even more, that he just wanted to play at Florida. No need to make anything more out of it. We would never think twice about a kid from Columbus, whose parents both graduated from tOSU, and who has been huge fan of the Buckeyes his entire life flipping to Urban. We certainly wouldn't think that it was only because the other school didn't have room for him. We will be just fine.

“It was tough calling Coach Meyer. He has been so great all along the whole process,” Townsend told The Orlando Sentinel on Thursday.

“It went really bad . . . sad and it was tough to tell him I wouldn’t be coming up there. He wanted to know why I was making that choice, and I just told him I had a change of heart and had to do what was best for me and my family.”

So when Townsend got the call from Will Muschamp just as he was preparing to become a Buckeye it rocked him to the core.

?I was in complete shock,? Townsend told The Sentinel.

?I was sitting down with family, saying some prayers and wondering out loud if all of this was happening for a reason. Like, what if this was just something that was meant to be. So I just started to weigh my options and trying to figure out where my heart was.?

He originally committed to Ohio State because both Alabama and Florida could only offer him a preferred walk-on position.

The Buckeyes were quick to extend a full scholarship offer, but this led to some confusion on Signing Day because Townsend would not have actually joined the team until there was enough room on the roster.

This.

The devil is always in the details and we don't know what those are. But let's not kid ourselves. If we lose an NC game for lack of a kid like Clark nobody is going to be patting Urban on the back saying "That's OK, you did right by Johnny Townsend."*

Rather, we will win that NC and everyone will be patting Urban on the back saying "Nice job Urban. You did right by the 105 kids on the roster and the rest of Buckeye nation. Because this is why we brought you here."

*(hypothetical - not saying he did wrong by him because we don't know those details)

You don't give Maryland the benefit of the doubt with Jacobs, or Diggs last year? You wouldn't have given mizzou the benefit of the doubt if they landed Elliott?

Shoot, we used the "stay at home" card to flip Conley, and have tried it with Dymonte Thomas and Pat Omaneh.

Staying close to family was important to Townsend, if the option was available. With muschamp getting a handle on the numbers, he saw UF could match OSU's full ride. Not much Meyer could do at that point. Sucks it happened on NLOID.

This.... yes it would have been nice to know a couple of months ago.
