'13 OH PF Deontae "Teddy" Hawkins (Quakerdale Academy; Illinois State)

Did you see the date on that story? It is a year old! He never made it to Wich St and is now back on the open market. The asst who was instrumental in signing him has left that program as well.

Try again! :biggrin::!:!

The Wichita State Shockers made some in-roads in the state of Ohio by recruiting three-star power forward Deontae Hawkins. The Dayton (OH) Dunbar product signed his letter of intent with Wichita State on Wednesday.

We recently wrote about Deontae 'Teddy' Hawkins, a 6-foot-7 forward who had committed to Wichita State, discovered he would not be eligible for his freshman season, went to prep school, and is now at Illinois State.

However, it is unclear when Hawkins will actually be able to suit up for Dan Muller and Co. Jim Benson of the Bloomington Pantagraph reported on Hawkins' situation, and it is unknown whether the forward has enrolled in ISU's summer courses. Benson does confirm Hawkins needs a waiver from Wichita State to play for the intraconference Redbirds -- because he signed a national letter of intent with the Shockers, since he transferred within the Missouri Valley, Hawkins has to wait two years to play. Even though Hawkins did not qualify, he still needs a waiver. Of course, WSU can waive this waiting period, but Hawkins notes the relationship between the coaching staffs of Muller and Gregg Marshall aren't the warmest, so it could be likely that Hawkins can't officially play for ISU until 2015-16.
