'13 TX PF Julius Randle (Kentucky Verbal)

Here’s a sneak preview of some prospects who will draw the attention of Matta and his assistants this month:

Julius Randle
Height, Weight: 6-9, 225
Position: Power Forward
School: Prestonwood (Texas) Christian Academy
ESPN Ranking: 1st among PFs, 1st overall in class of 2013
Considering: Baylor, Kansas, Missouri, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas
Camp This Week: Nike LeBron James Skills Academy
Outlook: There’s a long way to go in Randle’s recruiting and geography does not favor the Buckeyes, but the staff deserves some credit for receiving legitimate consideration to this point from the top junior-to-be in the nation. And considering ESPN.com awards Randle a grade of 98 out of 100 and has no visible holes in his game, you can bet Matta is going to try to hang on for dear life. A lefthander with a high motor, Randle already has been compared to Kevin Garnett and other stars of the game. Like Garnett he can turn and go right into a shot and also is comfortably going to the bank shot a la Tim Duncan. “There isn’t a spot on the floor where he can't begin his drive or jumper,” ESPN.com says. Randle also is considered a respectful kid and hard worker, which, along with his talent, should nearly ensure his very lofty ranking.

?Ohio State, they get the job done,? said Julius Randle of Plano, Texas, who?s either the best or second-best player nationwide in the class of 2013. ?Coach Matta gets the job done. They win, they get pretty deep into the tournament and they get players ready for the league.?

Randle is a guy who, at the tender age of 16, looks ready to play in the NBA now and figures to be a one-and-done entrant into the 2014 NBA Draft. He said he?s not much for giving lists of potential college destinations and has visited dozens of schools, many in Big 12 country but also North Carolina, Kentucky and Ohio State.

Julius Randle, 6-8 forward, Plano, Texas. (JUNIOR) There will be a fun debate next season as to whether Randle or Chicago swingman Jabari Parker is the best player in the Class of 2013. If Parker is the ultimate finesse player, Randle is all power, a sturdy left-hander who prefers to score through people as opposed to over them. Randle has a bad habit sometimes of trying to show people he's a point guard, which usually only shows people that he's not. But when he's focused and intense -- and angry -- he is a load on the block. It's too early to have a good idea where Randle is headed, but I do know that Baylor coach Scott Drew was at every one of Randle's games at the Peach Jam. Given the recruiting inroads Baylor has made the last couple of years, it will be interesting to watch this play out.

UK pursuing 2013 standout Randle

Add Julius Randle to the list of stars in the 2013 class who are expected to look at the Wildcats.

?Coach (John) Calipari is a great coach and gets his players into the (NBA),? said the 6-foot-8, 215-pound forward from Plano, Texas. ?It?s always been a good program, and it?s hard not to at least look at them.?

He has a long list of suitors, including Baylor, Duke, Kansas, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Texas. Indiana assistant coach Steve McClain was at a recent open gym.

?Pretty much everywhere,? Randle said when asked which schools are recruiting him. ?Every school says they want me in their program to help them win a national championship.?

Randle, who played spring and summer ball for the Texas Titans, is ranked No. 2 nationally by Scout.com and No. 3 by ESPN.com. He?s proud of the improvement in his game.

?All my life I have never wanted to be a big man or anything like that,? he said. ?I have always wanted to be handling the ball. My all-around game has improved, but I handle it a lot better. I want to be versatile off the dribble, but I know I can still get better.?

Julius Randle is ranked No. 3 in the ESPNU Super 60. As a junior, Randle, a forward at Prestonwood Christian (Plano, Texas), is one of the most sought after prospects in the country, regardless of class, with heavyweights like Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky and Texas all pursuing him hotly. Randle has agreed to give ESPNHS exclusive access to his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to cooking recipes in a monthly diary.

What?s up world!

Things have been rolling along pretty fast over the last few weeks. I?ve had a lot of coaches come out to my school and watch me workout and play. I?ve seen coaches from Texas, TCU, Oklahoma, Baylor, Ohio State, Kansas, Duke, North Carolina? Coach (John) Calipari said he?ll be in here next week too.

Julius Randle Could Envision Himself at Carolina
By Adam Zagoria on June 06, 2012

Julius Randle has no official college list and probably can envision himself at a number of different schools.

But one school he can definitely imagine playing for is North Carolina, which has been recruiting him about as long and hard as anyone.

?Coach [Roy] Williams is doing a great job of recruiting me,? the 6-foot-9 Randle said by phone from the USA U18 training camp in Colorado Springs, Colo. ?Just staying on me and talking to me and establishing a relationship.

?They?re doing a great job recruiting me. I?m having fun with it. It?s a great school and I could really see myself fitting there.?

Still, Randle, the No. 1 power forward in the Class of 2013, is also being courted by Duke, Baylor, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, N.C. State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, TCU and Texas, among others.

?I really don?t have any type of list right now,? he said. ?At the end of the summer I?ll probably sit down and see what colleges I?m really interested in and see where I want to take officials and go from there.?

Will Julius Randle pass Simeon's Jabari Parker as the No. 1 player in the class of 2013?

Randle, a 6-foot-9 power forward from Plano, Texas, is being recruited by Baylor, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Memphis, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M. He recently had a great week in a big-time tournament in Dallas. He ranked ahead of Parker as a freshman, then fell behind as a sophomore.

"Randle is the only player with a tool set and physical attributes who could have the kind of summer that could challenge a player of Parker's overall abilities. No one else is close," Coleman said.

Julius Randle, a 6-foot-11 power forward who is one of top five prospects in the class of 2013, plans to soon visit Kentucky and Ohio State.
?I want to narrow it down soon and I haven?t been to Kentucky since I was a freshman and I haven?t been to Ohio State at all,? Randle said Saturday during the LeBron James Skills Academy.
Randle ?wants to take a closer look? at the defending national champions.
?Coach (John) Cal(ipari) is a players coach,? Randle said. ?He raises the level of play of his players and gets them to the next level.?
