Something about a military marching band that I like.
Ohio State's band is also descended from military traditions (though no longer directly affiliated), so you should be in for a treat.

It's not as large as the A&M band - OSU's is set at a fixed size (225 members), so the tryout process is very competitive. You may not get the same sheer volume of A&M's band (350+ members, according to their site), but the quality will definitely be there.

And the really deceptive stat is that Donovan really didn't start putting up numbers til the Colorado and Texas A&M games. We under-used him at the start because he was a RS frosh coming into a stater's role and they didn't want to hurt him mentally during his growth. And with the running attack we had with Morency this year, we were able to do that.

But IMO, I agree with Wang. We under-used him as the season went on. He answered every demand the coaches put on him, but at the end of the season, it's like we went away from using him for some reason. Example: Texas Tech. I still don't understand why we didn't pass more there. They were stacking the box to stop the run and they succeeded and we never adjusted... just got really vanilla.

Anyway, I'm interested to see how your guy does. Seems like a capable QB.

This is Jamie....I'll be there. First game for me.

Section 115, row 2 (I forget the seat, I have the ticket taped up at work).

I'll be at the pre-game as well.

On a side note, I'm getting PRK surgery, free of charge thanks to the Air Force, on Monday. Should be completely healed by the day of the game.

Little more background- This is from Roger Brown's PD Column.

Ohio State's Dec. 29

Alamo Bowl matchup against Oklahoma State will be extra special for Buckeyes wide receiver Tony Gonzalez's and his family. (Gonzalez starred at St. Ignatius High.) Gonzalez' brother Joe - a former St. Ignatius and Indiana University star - is now a Cowboys graduate assistant coach. Their father, Eduardo Gonzalez, is a longtime friend of Oklahoma State head coach Les Miles: The elder Gonzalez and Miles were college roommates and teammates at Michigan during the 1970s.

Alamo Bowl Close to Selling Out

To coaches, Alamo Bowl a reward

Fast starts helped Oklahoma State and Ohio State dream earlier this season about playing in more prestigious bowls than the MasterCard Alamo Bowl.

But late struggles by both teams made Ohio State coach Jim Tressel and Oklahoma State coach Les Miles feel fortunate to bring their teams to San Antonio for the Dec.
29 game at the Alamodome.

Fans from both schools apparently feel the same way. Local organizers said that more than 63,000 tickets have been sold, and they envision the first potential sellout in bowl history for a game not involving a Texas-based school.

"This is one of our great opportunities," Alamo Bowl chief executive officer Derrick Fox said. "We've got two schools with great reputations for traveling well. It's been incredible we're at this point (in tickets) 20 days away from the game. It's a nice problem to have."

Tressel compared his team's 7-4 season to a roller-coaster ride. The Buckeyes started with three-straight victories and were ranked seventh in the Associated Press poll after beating North Carolina State on Sept. 18.

But consecutive conference losses to Northwestern, Wisconsin and Iowa — the Buckeyes' second 0-3 Big Ten start since 1943 — left some wondering if Ohio State would even make a bowl game.

The Buckeyes' season turned around after Troy Smith replaced injured starting quarterback Justin Zwick. Smith rallied his team to four victories in its final five games, including an impressive 37-21 upset over Michigan to finish the season.

"Our year was kind of broken into three parts," Tressel said. "We're 3-0, and then all of sudden we're 3-3. I thought we did a better job in the back half and finished on a good note in the final ballgame. I feel that game should be a good note to build on."

Oklahoma State's fall has been more pronounced. The Cowboys started with five-straight victories, reaching 16th in the AP poll in early October.

But four losses in their next six games dropped the Cowboys out of the AP rankings. All of the losses came against Big 12 South Division rivals, including defeats to Oklahoma and Texas in which the Cowboys scored 35 points in each game.

"In the end, we didn't quite get it done like we would have liked all season," Miles said. "But we're poised to do the things we want. And certainly, the bowl game is our opportunity to bring it all together and find out how good we are."

The Buckeyes are on a 12-game winning streak against Big 12 schools and have a 26-3-1 record against schools from the conference. OU notched the most recent victory over Ohio State by a Big 12 school, beating the Buckeyes 29-28 on Sept. 24, 1977. Uwe von Schamann settled the wild victory on last-second 41-yard field goal.

Ohio State has sold about 10,000 bowl tickets to season-ticket holders and will sell a small allocation of remaining tickets early next week.

"The game was announced so early that some of our fans have already bought the tickets through the bowl offices in San Antonio," Ohio State associate athletic director Richelle Simonson said. "We've been pleased with the sale and anticipate we'll have 25,000 to 30,000 fans in San Antonio for the game. It's not a national championship game but still a very good showing for us."

Oklahoma State ticket manager Tom Johnson said his office sold its original allotment soon after the bowl trip was announced Sunday, then sold more than 4,000 additional tickets.

"This has been similar to our demand for other bowls," Johnson said. "Our fans like to go places, and they enjoy San Antonio from the previous bowl and the Final Four trip there. They've been excited about coming down there."

As far as oOSU pounding the ball, that doesn't happen much, yes we do run the ball, ALOT, however we run sideline to sideline allot. Try and use the speed of the team to get outside and get yards. We will run sometype of pitch play 20 times a game. Our fullback WILL pound the ball straight at you, he is no question one of the strongest men on the team, he benches over 500lbs. We all know that fullbacks don't typically get alot of yards and that really is not much different than what Willis will do. We have 2 very capable tightends, that are very under used in the passing game both are big strong guys, as most tightends are.
Some of the most impressive things about our young team is that they don't make stupid mistakes, speaking of false starts and stupid penalties like that. We don't turn the ball over much, we started off the season not turning it over at all, and getting alot of take aways, but that has seemed to level out a little, but the competition got better also.
I look forward to meeting alot of you in San Antonio, and seeing yall on the boards well after we play on the 29th. All of you seem to very respectfull, and when putting up with the gooners year round, we as OK State fans really appreciate that.
Good Luck to all of you.

First, I'd like to say welcome aboard. I think you'll find that most of us over here, while being hardcore Buckeye fans, love college football in general and would like to have others from around the country give us their perspectives, except for scUMmers.
Every post I've read from oOSU'ers have been classy and knowledgable. I hope you guys stick around here after the game as well. I don't get to see much Big 12 football, but I always try to catch oOSU games when they're on in this area. I'm always interested in knowing how you guys are doing because you're the only team in the Big 12 that doesn't shit their pants when playing OU. Anyway, I hope you guys will come back next year and let us know how the Big 12 is shaping up.

PS: It still amazes me that one college backfield would have these two names in it: Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders. :yow1: They were there at the same time, correct?

EDIT:And good luck to your B-ball team. It looks like you got a talented squad again this year.

Yeah they were there at the same time. Whats even more amazing is that Barry was a backup to Thurman and the after Thurman left Barry went off on one of the best college football seasons ever.

Actually, I see a lot of parallels between Okie State's QB and Drew Tate of Iowa, and that concerns me. We struggled mightily to contain Tate, and I guess you would have to say we failed utterly. Mobile QBs - Michigan was not the only B11 team to struggle with them.
