hmmm intresting thought, if whitner is a corner playing safety, then why dont we simply switch him and fox? since it would no longer seem to be an issue of keeping the best players on the field, and it would get everyone back to their natural position..

Is anybody else surprised that Whitner is staying as a safety, and not playing corner?

It's not surprising. Whitner played mostly safety at Glenville even though he has corner speed and was rated the nation's #1 corner coming out of high scool. He also played safety last year although most of his PT came in nickel packages. He's a hitter and he can cover.

I think Ginn will end up being the better player before his days at Ohio State are over but no, I don't think he'll beat him out this year. I think EJ is going to be a good one. Ginn could probably start right away and be a good player for us but we have enough talent at the position that we wont have to start him. A couple years ago he might have started. The only thing that worries me about Ginn initially is his size. He could be a shut down corner right away but how will he do in run support? I believe he only weighs about 165 pounds, or at least he did last season. I'd like to see him play some receiver, return kicks and play in our nickel and dime packages this year but I'm not sure how he'd hold up playing extensively in the Big Ten early on.

I used to be in the group arguing to move Fox back to his 'natural' position. But after finally listening to what the coaches have to say it is clear that they feel corner is his natural position. I keep recalling a statement by Dantonio at the end of last season in which he said that in over 1000 plays Fox had NEVER let his man get behind him. They like him at corner.

The way Whitner hits I think he may be at the right spot as well.

I also think the #2 TB job should be Hall's until he loses it at practice - not while he is recovering from knee surgery. Putting Pittman's name in that spot now would probably be unfair to both of them.

What will be interesting this fall is seeing how many other incoming Frosh can make that list. Caldwell has to have a target on his back. Some of the new OL will be fighting to get Winner off that list and Mr. Freeman has to be asking the same question that is on my mind - who is Joe Bradley?

What are the odds of Hoobler or Nicols moving into that two-deep at TE assuming that Izzy is gone? His predicament surely for removes a redshirt from one if not both of the recruits.

He's not a game breaker by any means but I was impressed with Stan White in the spring game. He has pretty good hands and he can block. I think he'll be in the derby for the second string TE, so will Caldwell. Hoobler and Nicol are fantastic prospects and I wouldn't be shocked to see either play significant minutes this year. They both are physical and have excellent hands.

I think you can put Pittman in place of Hall. Hall may not even play this year. Even if he does, I wouldn't be surprised if Pittman surpassed him.

I'd like to see Stan White Jr. back at TE. At least until Nicol or Hoobler shows what they can do.
