It's very difficult to enter such a big game without these elements of the pack. Alles sal kom reg (everything will come right, Afrikaans is the language of rugby:biggrin: )

Put it behind you and work on Bowling Green.

Steve - I think I may use that either at the end of practice tonight or up on the board before Saturday's game...

that is the kind of motivation these guys need right now...thanks!

selections were last night. we are starting our regular 8-man and scrummy. the fly half, having not played in either of the scrimmages, is going to play a little in the second half and in the B-game. he needs to see some live action before going back into the starting lineup and we need to get him back into the groove this weekend because we are going to need him next weekend for our Midwest pool match at Wisconsin.

Not a pretty win, but a win nonetheless...

College Latest: Clemson, Tennessee, OSU Win
September 25, 2005 – Two tries from lock forward Wayne Chemerly saw #11 Tennessee down #14 Purdue in Knoxville, Saturday.
Purdue took an early lead off a penalty goal but a minute letter Chemerly gave his side a lead they would never relinquish as he bulled over. The second row forward did the honors again later in the first half to secure a 10-3 lead at the break.
Scrumhalf Brett Jones slotted a penalty kick to make it 13-3 before freshman flyhalf Andrew Melroy scored. Jones' conversion made it 20-3. Purdue scored a try with three minutes left to make it 20-10.
Meanwhile #9 Ohio State rebounded from their big loss to Penn State with a 25-10 defeat of #14 Bowling Green. The Buckeye forwards did the better job in presenting solid possession, allowing them to attack more effectively. Meanwhile, despite having slightly more ball overall, the Bowling Green Falcons were repeatedly stymied by a tough OSU defense. Much of the second half was spent in and around the Ohio State 22 meter line, but that produced no Falcon points.
Ranked #20 Dartmouth was expected to lose by a fairly wide, but respectable, margin to #5 Army, but they almost pulled off the upset, losing 32-25 and knocking on the door. Dartmouth's superiority on the edges kept them in it and was eschewed for a more direct approach late, to their detriment.
Said heroic fullback Andrew Caspary, "we though if we could get it wide we had a good chance to score, but unfortunately during the last four penalties inside the 22, the try line just looked real close and the forwards tried to bull it in. It was a hard game but I was pleased with how we played."
"Dartmouth played well, much better than last year," said Army scrumhalf David Lodwick. "Their defense was strong and tough. We were a little concerned about their strength when going wide."
"In the last few minutes we knew we had to be strong on defense," added center Andrew Locke.
Clemson (#18) rose to 2-0 with a fairly workmanlike 37-14 victory over Albright College.
Flyhalf Brett Ferriera opened the scoring and Clemson also got tries from center Mike Ireson, and All American scrumhalf Dutch Jones in the first half. But they didn't close it out and a scrappy Albright team made it 20-14 at the break.
Clemson worked harder to keep their pattern in the second half and Ireson was especially good. No. 8 Mike Fitzgerald, hooker Jason Hinchman, and Jones again closed out the scoring.
</SPAN>And finally, Air Force (#6) held off the steadily improving but as yet unranked Colorado 32-24 at the Academy's home ground. After a Sean Miller put Air Force up 7-0 Colorado stormed back to lead 17-13 at halftime. It wasn't until late in the second half that Air Force took the lead, with wing Rosey Deas scoring and then scrumhalf John Cordova sneaking around off a ruck to add a try to his 14 points with the boot.
Both teams scored tries late to make it 32-24 in the end. It was the first loss for Colorado this season, but one that certainly shows they are a force to be reckoned with this season.

8-man Jake LeGros played a great game scoring two tries. Flanker Bubba Blakemore had numerous highlight reel open field hits. Inside center/Captain Phil Nightingale had a couple of nice runs and some solid tackles. Lots still to work on, but it definitely is not a lack of talent or athleticism. All the problems we as coaches are seeing are easily fixable.

Nice work Coach...sometimes all of that returning experience breeds hidden complacency. That is hard as hell to get rid of as a coach...

Keep plugging and it will start clicking.

Ain't that the truth...there was definitely a lot more intensity out of our veterans this week. Hopefully that is a sign that we are going to be kicking into high gear. Next weekend is big...a pool match against Wisconsin, in Madison.

This weekend...

vs.

#9 Ohio State @ Wisconsin
Saturday, October 1 Time TBD

This is our first pool match of the year, which means this counts towards our standings in the Midwest brackets at the end of the Fall. This weekend we will be traveling to Madison for a match against the Badgers. Then we return home for our second and final pool match against Illinois State. Both our must wins in our quest to defend our Midwest title.

The OSU women are currently ranked #8 in the country after a blowout of Denison two weeks ago and a big win against Grand Valley State in Detroit last weekend. They are at home this weekend against the #6 US Naval Academy.

Forgot to mention...we had one spectator of note during our game against BGSU on Saturday night. Standing on the sidelines watching the game was none other than Antonio Pittman...

Steve -

That score is correct. The goal this weekend was to send a message to the rest of the Midwest and to silence all the talk about OSU struggling out of the blocks this season. I think that score got the job done...

Buckeyes trounce Wisconsin

by Brian Lowe
The Ohio State Buckeyes have posted their second straight win with an 86-3 drubbing of Wisconsin in a Midwest Pool play match Saturday in Madison, WI.
In a very one-sided affair, OSU scored at better than a point a minute, giving the opposition virtually no opportunities to register any points other than a lone penalty goal.
“It was pretty much all loose play and that’s something that we’ve been working hard on,” Ohio State head coach Tom Rooney told American Rugby News. “We returned our whole backline this year, but there are a few gaps in the pack. I’ve got a couple of freshmen out of high school and I think they’re going to show as we go along.”
The win improves OSU to 2-1 on the season. Elsewhere in Pool play, Northern Iowa belted Pitt 75-5.
The Midwest RFU has instigated a system whereby the top 12 teams from both Division I and Division II from the previous year are split into four pools of three, with the best eight progressing to the Midwest playoffs later in the season to decide who will be seeded for the national championship Round of Sixteen.

The OSU women lost to #6 Navy 29-8, but more importantly lost captain and U23 Eagle Sarah Wilson for the season with a broken hip. Our thoughts go out to her as she recovers and prepares for the 2006 season.

Next up...
