2006-2007 season college basketball thread

anyone see the end of the unc/duke game? henderson was ejected for elbowing hansbrough in the face with about 15 seconds left. hansbrough was bleeding badly. it took him a while to get off the floor. when he did, he was shielded from the duke players.

it looked intentional to me. after the ball had passed well (or well enough) in front of henderson, he took an aggressive downward blow at hansbrough, leading with his forearm and his elbow. billy packer, aka the idiot, stood on his soapbox and argued over and over that it was definitely not intentional. again, i disagree. you'll have to see the clip. i'm sure it will be on sportscenter, around the horn, and pti. in fact, i'm sure it will be the highlight of the game.

with the ejection, henderson will be unavailable to play for duke's first conference tournament game--that is, if the acc doesn't overturn the officials' decision.

I just saw the hit for the first time and I have to say that I agree 100% with the analysis that this was absolutely nothing BUT a vicious cheapshot.

either it was intentional or it was one of the most awkward attempts at a rebound that i've ever seen. the play should be youtubed in a couple hours. there is already a putfile video of the play; however, the replays are poor.

There's no way he was going for a rebound.

His friggin elbow sped up going towards Hansbrough's face. Unless he mistook his face for the ball, that doesn't make a lot of sense.

If Hansbrough has to wear a mask for the NCAA tournament, Roy Williams will get tired of the question: "Why was Hansbrough in the game with 15 seconds left and a double-digit lead?"

I agree with the flagrant foul call. Hansbrough went straight up, and even if Henderson wasn't trying to blast him in the face, he was trying to take a very hard foul out of frustration with less than 15 seconds remaining in a game they had no chance to win.

I guess i am the only one...but i dont think it was intentional...to me it looked like TH went up for the shot and knew it was going to be blocked so he brought it down and tried going up from the side...Henderson was already in the air and so after he saw TH change the release point he tried to still block the shot...
Disclaimer
obviously this is just my opinion so do not jab at me with "what the hell are you talking" abouts

from the official's point of view, it doesn't matter what henderson's intent was. intent is immaterial as to flagrancy. the ncaa rules do not mention intent when discussing what is and what is not a flagrant foul. a flagrant foul is an appropriate designation when there is excessive or severe contact. i think it's pretty clear that there was severe contact.
