It is beyond me how JT could recruit a DB for this year's class. Even if we lose Jenkins next year and Washington the next we would have Coleman, Amos, Chekwa and Clifford. I have never ever ever seen anything like the log jam of talent on this D.

but is that such a problem?! haha I'm not going to lie this is a very deep team, and next years recruiting class is really coming along too... Does anyone think since this is the first year the new football center has been that it's payed off with the recruits? We've got one impressive class coming in!

I can't wait to see this Defense against Morelli

Oh come on. The log jam isn't all that impressive. Any one of those guys would be lucky to make the two deep at schools like LSU, Florida, Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, and maybe even Vanderbilt.

By the way, I don't know why I stuck the pirate dude in there. I was going to go with something in the "sarcasm" theme, but I just like that pirate too damn much to ignore him.

mannigham's double move is pretty sick out there... last year I remember he even got Jenkins on one of his double moves. That's the only time I can remember Jenkins being juked out. I think we'll do much better this year though against Michigans Offense. As long as we shut Hart down I could care less how the recievers do (of course we have to win the game too)

Manningham probably has the best double move in college football. I remember the play you're talking about. Henne overthrew Manningham, one of the few times he's done that. He's played EXTREMELY well lately as he has 5 TDs in his past 3 games.

I doubt we score 39 on you guys again. I think your defense is better this year. Our offense looks like it's starting to get in gear too, but I really don't expect last year's fireworks this time around. It's tough to shut Hart down (I know, I know, you guys did it twice) but of course no one wants to leave either AA or Columbus with an 0-4 record in the Game, so Hart will have some extra incentive.

yeah it'll be hard to shut down hart once again... I think he'll get his... probably 100 yards on 30 carries or so which isn't a great average but I think he'll win some and we'll also get him for a couple also. There's plenty of football being played before OSU/UM play but as I've seen so far. This will be a lot lower scoring than last years. However, I think OSU's defense is going to be the difference. I think Michigans defense is a little more prone to giving up a big play than ours and we'll win late 24-13 or 24-17. I think Michigan will definatly move the ball between the 20's but will struggle when space becomes a premium. Also though our offense is exactly the type of offense that michigan can defend. Power running, and play action passes and the sort. However our line is very good, we have an excellent running back core, and I think the key is who will make the biggest plays? I think our offense will hit michigan deep on 1 or 2 throws and make our score (in the 20-27 range) look too high for the amount of success we'll have. I think we'll gain 380-420 yards of offense.

I do think Michigan will be our biggest test for our Defense. A lot of weapons with hart, manningham, arrington, henne, the tight end is decent also.. I think We can take away anything deep as we have all year and basically for the past 5-7 years. I Think Michigan will put up the most yards on us all year but will still struggle to score points. I wouldn't be surprised if this game was 13-10 either though

yea you know the move I'm talkin bout too... Manningham had Jenkins OWNED on that one, and I can honestly say thats the only time I've ever seen Jenkins get beat. He was beat for a TD in the championship game on the first drive by Baker (the touchdown maker) but I don't blame him because the QB was rolling out and he had to either come up and try for the sack or drop back and defend the pass and he got caught up in the middle. I think the safty could've been responsible for Baker anyways..That TD is the only TD I can remember Jenkins giving up

A) I'll give Ohio State the edge in DL, but I feel PSU's secondary is slightly better....

OK, this is from 2 pages ago, and it has already been responded to; but this is a whole new level of wrong.

PSU is #1 in the country in sacks, but EIGHTY FIRST in the country in Differential Pass Defense. In other words, they allow teams 6.6% MORE passing yards than those teams typically gain. Eighty teams in the country do better than that. With their pass rush, one would think that they might get something positive out of all that pressure.

Ohio State on the other hand is #2 in Differential Pass Defense, #1 in Pass Efficiency Defense and oh by the way #1 in Differential Rushing Defense.

Given the VAST discrepancy in production, the suggestion that the Penn State secondary is better than Ohio State's is sufficiently ridiculous that I have to think you misspoke. Is that what you really meant? If so, that is right up there with xrayrandy for some of the most ridiculous nonsense that I've ever read.

Do you really think a little bit of "incentive" is going to overcome the (close to) 400 carries and two already sustained injuries that his body is going to endure? Unless Hart sits out every game until THE Game, he's not going to be full strength. Furthermore, if it comes down to incentive; then I think there is just as much on the Buckeye side. But that's just me being a homer.

Very nice post Daddy. But did you have to bring up xrayrandy??? :) I'd almost forgotten about that dude:biggrin:

I'll keep his profile on stand by just incase we lose on saturday....

On to our defense... What do you guys think PSU can't do without on offense? I think screens/reverses...

I don't think PSU is going to be doing much against our D. IMO, Purdue & MSU both have better offenses than PSU and you saw how we handled both of them.

Let's go back and retroactively change the rules for OSU this season.

Let's go back and move the goal-line up 20 yards for OSU's opponents.

In other words, let's AWARD OSU OPPONENTS WITH A TD FOR CROSSING OUR 20.
And let them keep the field goals they got in the red-zone this year...
OHIO STATE WOULD STILL LEAD THE BIG TEN IN SCORING DEFENSE. (by 1 point)

...and they'd still be undefeated.
PSU might be #2 in the Big Ten, defensively. But their defense is grade-A, Government Inspected #2 compared to the Buckeyes. So is everybody this year.

UPDATE:

Obviously this is still true: If you awarded all of our opponents 7 points for entering our red-zone rather than for crossing our goal-line, OSU would still be leading the Big Ten in scoring defense, and would still be undefeated. Last week we would've kept the lead by one point, now we would keep the lead by 15 points (instead of 57).

This is the case because Ohio State prevented MSU from entering the red-zone at all. OSU has now allowed 9 violations of our red-zone in 8 games. By contrast, Penn State is 2nd in the conference by this stat having allowed 20 red-zone incursions (14 scores).

For those who care, in addition to the fewest red-zone violations, OSU has allowed the lowest % of red-zone scores (55.556%) and the lowest percentage of red-zone touchdowns (33.333%) in the conference.

Greens for you daddybigbucks....Unbelievable... makes you that much more confident in a win. The thing that really has been getting me some good sleep this week has been the fact that our offense doesn't have to light up the score board to win any games this year. If we simply score 10+ points we got a great shot to win the game, and with our offensive weapons thats not very much to ask of the offense. As good as PSU's defense is its just insane how much better our defense is. The numbers/stats don't lie...
