Also take into effect that this class seems to be special and you don't just have the coaches doing the recruiting, and it can be easier for kids to leave their home state when you have built strong relationships with other players that will be coming in the class...

How much time should be spent on OOS 5-star guys that everybody in the college world are recruiting and will be fighting for till signing day?
Well, we've already got two, and it's only May 4th.

With a small class and half of it already filled, the coaching staff is in a great position - they can spend the next nine months recruiting a few specific OOS targets (Sweat, Goebel, Hale, Pryor, Jenkins, Long, Beal, Mobley, Wells, etc.), while looking for Ohio talent to fill in any gaps (Beachum, Rowell, Staples, Rippy, J. Adams, Pead, Woods, and whoever else might emerge during summer camp or next season). And don't forget, there are a few local kids who already have offers (Zordich, McCarthy, Koger, Scott), each of whom has Ohio State at least in his top two.

And Wes brings up a good point - while some of the Buckeyes' top targets are literally "out of state", kids like Pryor, Hale, Sweat, and Jenkins are certainly within Ohio State's "local" region (Ohio and Western PA primarily, but also Michigan, West Virginia, Indiana, and parts of Kentucky).

BRET SHUGARTS FOR THE DISPATCH Ohio State?s prized line recruits are, from left, J.B. Shugarts, Mike Adams and Mike Brewster.
If you can?t beat ?em, go recruit some of ?em.
Ohio State coach Jim Tressel hasn?t made that his motto, but it felt that way after he and his coaching staff last week landed two of the nation?s top offensive line prospects, Mike Brewster of Orlando, Fla., and J.B. Shugarts of Klein, Texas, for the 2008 recruiting class.
To get Brewster, who is rated as the top offensive line prospect in the country by Rivals.com, Ohio State went fishing in Florida?s pond, the same area from which the Gators rounded up most of the players who manhandled the Buckeyes 41-14 in the national championship game Jan. 8.

First part is not really relevant to OSU but an interesting article:

National Blitz...profile of some famous sons being recruiting this year, including the sons of John Elway and Dale Murphy. Also some talk about how DJ Woods has blown up at the recent combines.

I have a question. I know everyone says that we wait on the kids from Glenville kids, which I sort of agree with, but let's say a top 5 wr comes along this summer and says he wants to be a Buckeye. Do you guys still wait on Scott?

There were some Glenville kids who did commit "early" last year to other schools other than Ohio State. I will admit that they were not 4*or 5*but they still committed. Not all Glenville kids wait the entire season before committing.

Please do not beat me to death for saying what I have said:)

As I said in another thread, the staff is already including Scott in their numbers for this year so any offers to SPEED players such as Floyd or Fuller or whoever is because they expect to have a spot available in addition to Scott. There is no way they would pull Scott's offer...he is too good and you just don't do that to a kid from Glenville. TG Sr. and JT have a great relationship and they both always know what the other is doing.

The more interesting question is, do you wait on Shawntel Rowell? Or Dawawn Whitner? Neither has an offer, and both could reasonable earn offers down the road, but the class might be full by then.

Given that the Bucks could quite possibly lead for both Goebel AND Mobley, I could see the train leaving the station as far as Mr. Rowell is concerned. 3 DTs is not going to happen in this class,IMO.
Also, unless Hale commits somewhere else fairly quickly, Beachum will not get an offer-which is too bad-the kid has an FSU offer but an OSU character.

I will believe all the Mobley talk when he starts talking about leaving the state...I still think that Minny is the team to beat here...

I will also believe that Rowell will not be a part of this class come january and he doesnt have an offer...

Tom Lemming's analysis on the 2008 recruiting classes so far. He talks about how tOSU is one of the leaders, but he doesn't cut short ND. In fact, he mentions them first and thoroughly covers them in his other answers. The guy has to be aware that people perceive him a total ND homer, yet he doesn't back off his love for them in his coverage. His contributions to cstv.com are almost as bad as the idiots over at irisheyes. Not to mention that he really has nothing interesting to say in general, including the above link.

Bill Greene's recruiting feature "Take it to the Bank"...brings up a good point...at this point last year several kids who ended up commiting to OSU didn't have offers yet...including Devon Torrence, who was on everyone's short list.
