ESPN's bias is a joke.

Just looking at their rankings for OSU, Florida and Miami, compared with the other rankings, shows exactly where their bias is. This composite would be much more meaningful without ESPN included*

Yeah #9
Just watch ESPN and look at the bottom line when it's on recruiting. It'll show "9. Ohio State signed 7 ESPNU 150 commitments (none in top 20)."

After that I came upstairs. :shake:

i saw that as well. whats with the (none in top 20) comment? was that really necessary?

Exactly. It'll say LSU signed #1 rated QB, S, ATH. Or UGA signed 2 #1 guys or something, like every commit that every other team signed was in the top 20? I mean I understand that that stat is a telling stat, but with no other info to bring to light, it's completely negative. And really there is no reason for it, of the first 8 teams I saw it was all positive information, I read Miami, #7 signed 7 ESPNU 150 commitments (2 top 10 class since 2007) or something; not verbatim, but thats the gist. Why? Why have nothing positive to say about tOSU? I didn't see what it said about UM having the 10th ranked class, I left the room.

Its just hard to understand. I can see where occasionally fans of a school can find biases, but I don't feel I'm exactly reaching on this when I clearly read 8 positive comments, and then (none in top 20)

ESPN makes me daydream of punching small animals

Yeah if not for ESPN then this class is most likely #1.

I'm going to throw this out there right now though about one recruit from LSU. Russell Shephard IMO was majorly overrated. Now I know he's fast and has some quicks, but in that Underarmour game he didn't do anything what so ever. He took sacks, couldn't locate recievers, and looked lost. I just have a feeling that he's not going to be even as good as the kid they have now at QB. Something about him just doesn't sit right with me.

Personally I think him being in the top 5 as a player is a joke. I think our class is just as good as if not better than Alabama/LSU, but the fact that ESPN has Notre Dame ahead of us tells you all you need to know.

They could rank us #117 and I wouldn't care though because quite frankly this class (combined with last years class) is going to show the nation that we ARE elite.

On a side note. Two years straight the recruiting has been on another level. Is it a coinsidance (spelling?) that the new football facility opened two years ago? I think that facility strictly for the football players is paying off BIG TIME.

Seriously though. ESPN even has a positive comment for scUM. They fucking SUCK!!!11!!

I'm just reading exactly what ESPN put and reporting it. Have you seen it? Because it's hard not to see anything when Miami is ranked ahead of tOSU and the comment for them is "2nd top ten class aunder Shannon" then "(none in top 20)," or Georgia gets "2 top 20 ESPNU 150 commits same as last year. Even my roommate laughed at it, and he's not even a CFB fan.

And let me say that #9 ranking doesn't mean shit. I couldn't care less. Ranking HS kids is hard, and wrong sometimes. It's the comment from ESPN, why? Have you ever streamed ESPN radio? Occasionally, and randomly, they'll play a sound bite from SVP saying "I'm sure Ohio State fans, probably in private with other fans will admit that they were happy they didn't embarrass the Big Ten, who has now lost 6 straight BCS games." Why? Why play that clip randomly with no other comment or anything around it for a national audience? [/endrant] I guess. This probably belongs in the ESPN Bias thread anyway. I just don't feel I'm reaching for something, a total bias maybe, but a negative comment; no.

But, this has gone too far, and I'm taking away from the great work BB73 did. I apologize.

Note that I used a question mark. I have enough self respect not to watch their network or pay attention to any of their myriad media outlets.

So...like clockwork? The fact that their horrible coverage has literally driven me to avoid their brand at all cost might not jive with that.

when faced with a problem like this in statistics you follow a simple plan to rationalize for operator bias.

Throw out the high, throw out the low, average the rest.

New top 12 (old rank shown in parentheses)
Rank....School....Rank1....Rank2....Avg
1(01.) LSU....2....1....1.5
2(02.) Alabama....2....1....1.50
3(03.) Ohio State....2....3....2....2.5
4(05.) So Cal....4....4....4.0
5(04.) Texas....5....4....4.5
6(07.) N. Carolina....8....6....7.0
7(06.) Georgia....7....8....7.50
8(11.) Florida....10....9....9.50
9(08.) TSUN....10....10....10.00
10(13.) Miami....11....11....11.0
10(10.) Florida St....14....8....11.0
11(09.) S. Carolina....12....12....12.0
12(11.) Oklahoma....13....11....12.0

And yet you're still complaining about it. Anytime ESPN (or any other sports media outlet) slights OSU in any way, people here jump on it and start crying like a schoolgirl that just got told she couldn't sit at the popular table.

If you're insecure about being a fan of a university football team to the point that some tool on TV gets your blood boiling, then you've got bigger problems.

Edit: Can someone split this off? It doesn't need to be in the recruiting forum.
