Damn good start to the season. Good luck to your Sun Devils.

Thank you sir, we take on Houston this weekend in a 3 game series and they should be tough competition. Houston swept the Houston College Classic beating Missouri, Texas and Texas Tech in one weekend. They also swept Cal Poly and beat Cal, so ASU is going to have their hands full.

That should be a good series. Love me some baseball and would love to check out an ASU game.

ASU had some luck on their side today as they beat Houston 6-5 in Tempe. ASU had a 6-2 lead going into the top of the 9th inning when they decided to try out one of their freshman pitchers to close the game. Well, he ended up beaning a batter, walking a couple and giving up a couple of hits to bring the score to 6-5 with the bases loaded and 2 outs. ASU brought in their normal closer to try and salvage the game and the batter hit a dart up the middle and our second baseman made a fantastic back handed diving stop and throw to 2nd base for the final out. Very close call and ASU is now 20-0. Here is a pic of the dive:

His name is Zack MacPhee and he's ridiculously good. Here's his stat sheet for the year:

Player AVG GP-GS AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB SLG% BB HBP SO GDP OB% SF SH SB-ATT PO A E FLD%

2 MacPhee, Zack.... .484 17-17 64 26 31 3 8 3 28 59 .922 15 1 7 0 .580 1 0 10-10 23 38 4 .938

That's kind of hard to read, but the main thing is he's hitting .484 on the year with 3 HR's, scored 26 runs, 8 triples, 28 RBI's, .922 Slug%, .580 Ob%, and 10 for 10 stolen bases.

ASU starts off Pac-10 play vs. Cal and picks up the win 12-5. ASU is now 21-0 and that matches their best start ever back in 1961. If they win tomorrow, they will have the best start in Sun Devil history. Still don't have our ace pitcher (Josh Spence).
