Go Buckeyes!

  • I am starting a thread about the Gators' 2010 season. If I get time, I'll try a small writeup on their expectations. Gatorubet, if you know anything or have anything to add - please feel free to do it here.

    More later...

    We lose Avery Barnes and Teddy Foster in the outfield, and shortstop Mike Mooney. Bullpen losses are Billy Bullock and Tony Davis, who was 5-0 and a lefty.

    We are ranked 6th or 7th, and hope to do well enough to have a winning SEC record and the dap to host a regional/super regional in Gainesville.

    Unlike the Tiggers, the attendance is laughable, with a little over 2k a game, in the lower tier of the SEC. :sad:

    2009 Attendance #s

    LSU = 403,056 (NCAA record)
    Ole Piss = 273,111 (2nd in Nation last year)
    Florida = 119,252

    i think laughable was a pretty good description :slappy:
    the gap between us and 2nd best is larger than UFs total attendance :slappy:

    we haven't been that low in attendance since expanding the Old Box in the early 90's.
    Haven't been below 225k since the expansion in the mid 90's.

    Maddox, UF baseball tops USF | Gatorsports.com

    New Gator Freshman DH Austin Maddox hit his second collegiate pitch over right center to make it 2-0 Gators.

    Josh Adams hit two dingers, and UF went up 4-0 and cruised to a 6-2 win. The Gators did so on the arm of Sophmore Tommy Toledo.
    Tommy was a little rusty and wild, hitting two batters, walking two, and giving up three hits. But he was throwing in the low 90s
    for his 71 pitches before being yanked after 3 1/3. The deal with Tommy is he has not pitched in 16 months because of a shoulder
    injury, so the good news is his speed and feeling good after actually pitching after more than a year. He'll get his control back, never
    a wild guy. Now that we know that he can throw in the low 90s in a game situation w/o pain, we can work him back into the lineup.

    All in all a good first game that got the young guys' and Tommy's jitters out of the way. Sully was beaming they say.

    Gator freshman southpaw Brian Johnson threw 51 of 65 pitches for strikes yesterday, gave up only three hits, and picked up his first college win as the Gators beat USF 9-1. Welcome to Gainesville Brian.

    The Gators have made a great start to their season, winning 7 of 9.

    Gator SS Nolan Fontana (isn't that a "Godfather" character?) was named SEC Freshman on the Week for last week Link

    Florida begins a 10 game homestand tonight against Illinois State.

    Gatorzone

    Freshman Austin Maddox (Jacksonville, Fla.) (4-for-5) drove in a career-high six runs, highlighted by his first grand slam, as No. 6 Florida (9-2) completed a two-game sweep of Illinois State (4-7) with an 8-0 victory on Wednesday night at McKethan Stadium. Sophomore Anthony DeSclafani (Freehold, N.J.) (1-1) earned his first win of the campaign with 5.1 strong innings in which he registered a season-high six strikeouts and gave up one hit. The trio of freshman Steven Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.), freshman Michael Heller (Bradenton, Fla.) and sophomore Justin Poovey (Granite Falls, N.C.) permitted one hit over the final 3.2 innings to nail down the Gators? first shutout since 12-0 triumph over Eastern Michigan on Feb. 24, 2009.
