2010 Ohio State Spring Game (Apr 24, 1 ET, BTN)

I think a lot of youngsters got to showcase their talents on the field and a lot of them did well.
A little disappointed in the secondary play but the starters were split up and that accounts for that.
Overall I was please in the game.

it was windy and the field was wet in the second half...

the punting game wasn't great, but the conditions were less than ideal

And those are the types of games that we'll need an effective punting crew.
Pinning a team deep and playing field position are always critical with the weather that can occur in Ohio.

This was a good thread and a good recap!

Most of the time, spring game recaps are filled with comments that lean towards the extremes. It's either: "oh my god, we'll be lucky to win 6 games" to " ZOMG! CHAMPIONSHIP!"

This was pretty fair and a good read.

But really, we're going to win the championship

Sike, we can't get too hyped up too early around here or by the middle of the season we will be going insane. And we know to not get our hopes up too much, but I sincerely think we have the definite capability of winning it all.

Great analysis like always. Also some nice stuff from the jersey scrimmage from the week before.

BUCKEYE FOOTBALL ANALYSIS

Spring Game Thoughts

I am going to focus in this post on my Spring Game analysis. But in a follow-up post I am going to expand and focus specifically on what is the Ohio State 'base' offense heading into 2010, both in terms of overall philosophy and specific plays. After watching this spring it is clear that Ohio State is building very specifically on the offense employed in the Oregon game going forward, which I will discuss in more detail in future posts.

But first, specific thoughts from the Spring Game. I re-watched and broke down the first half and did a play-by-play for the First Quarter. Here are my specific thoughts:

Rough day for the refs and the BTN.

The opening graphics showed Larimore as the Scarlet center and the Gray NT.

The final punt of the game was on 5th down.
I had to go back and watch this when I got a chance. Here's the drive chart from the link on page 15

SCARLET 4th S47 00:47 Kickoff S47 00:38 Interception 1-0 0:09
GRAY 4th G07 00:38 Interception G12 00:15 Downs 4-5 0:23
GRAY 4th G12 00:15 Downs G12 00:02 Punt 0-0 0:13
SCARLET 4th G34 00:02 Punt G34 00:00 Missed FG 1-0 0:02
GRAY 4th S20 00:00 Missed FG S20 00:00 End of half 0-0 0:00
The geniuses in the booth had no idea, but whoever puts the down and distance on the screen had it right with 1st and 10 when Gray punted with 15 seconds left.
