2010 Ohio State Spring Game (Apr 24, 1 ET, BTN)

my 2 cents

first, the negatives...

can't believe the weather scared people away that much, but the forecast was for "thunderstorms". Blame the weatherman.
Bauserman is 3d qb... or 4th. Ouch.
Rolle looks a little chunky. I guess he can't make himself grow taller, so he is trying to get stronger and heavier. Looks a little heavy.
Posey had a couple of focus drops.
The punting didn't scare me as much as the kicking. Nobody kicked anything near a touchback.
The closed captioning on the scoreboards blocks part of the replays. Be done with it, or just put it on the smaller screen and not the big one.
Lot of holding. I know, it's just practice, but you play the way you practice.
I wish Jordan Hall had kept #29. why does everyone have to be single digits?

positives:
Z-Bor
Long snapper getting downfield on a punt to help bring down Jordan Hall. McQuade I think.
Stoneburners hands, Fragel catching one or two.
Scott Sika did a nice job against Dexter Larimore. Is he our #2 center?
The play calling. again, I know it was just practice, but we did not see the "run, run, imcomplete pass, punt" thingy all day.
The band was great.
KG solidifying himself as the #2 qb. No debate.
Sanzenbacher. Hands.
Pig Iron BBQ on N. High St. ohhhhhh Man.

I'll think of more later, but for a spring game, it was really interesting.

I just tried Pig Iron BBQ for the first time on Friday. I won't be going back, that's all I'm saying.

I wouldn't agree with your assessment of Rolle, either. I've run into him a few times in the past couple weeks, and he's more thickly muscled than fat. He might have gained some weight, but if he did it's hard to imagine that it's fat.

  • People said the same thing about Rolle last year. He looks the same to me, and he runs the same which is what really matters to me.
  • I agree that our special teams need to improve. Wasn't impressed but it is spring so we'll get a better feel for it during week 1.
  • I think 7 looks sick on Jordan.
  • I was in south stands. The scarlet squad was moving the ball towards the north endzone and Pryor threw a strike over the middle, into a triple coverage, threaded the needle. I liked the confidence and the fact that the coaches are letting him throw over the middle now.
  • Really liked what I saw with the checkdown options. Boren is a player, and Stoney looks hungry to make an impact. Can't wait to see this success transition to the season.
  • Kenny looked good. He needs to put on some mass and get some more reps but I like his progress.
  • Nobody mentioned the NASTY moves Saine put on defenders in the limited reps he got. Absolutely shook the shit out of Torrence, made Storm Klein fall down in the role and broke a few tackles. Had a great view of it in the south stands.

I did notice that, I'm not sure how someone suddenly develops jukes, but he looked much quicker out of his breaks than last year. Overall, our backs looked great and I'm really excited for our ground game next year.

Pryor looked good; add in his ability to run with the football and he should look just great this year. I think he took more steps from last season to this season than he did from Frosh to Soph.
Guiton showed that he has a lot of talent.
We are stacked at tailback.
Washington looked good in the spring game...again. He looks a little more confident out there though.
The first team offensive line should be really good. They looked good (yea I know blitzing restrictions).
Keith Wells is a freak. And I am a huge fan of his after yesterday.
We have incredible talent this year. You can't deny that we have better players than we've ever had under Tress.

Did anyone see how Sabino did??

Keith was very active yesterday. Obviously, he's got some freakish physical attributes. I'm hoping he puts it all together and becomes a real star coming off the edge.

FAST and STRONG as SHIT!!! And he was producing like no other yesterday. I really, really like him.

I saw him kill Jordan Hall in the open field on a play that caused a fumble. He definitely has a lot of talent. I'm excited to see our LBers this year. We are deep as fuck at that position.

IMHO it wasn't a good format for showing off Sabino's skill set. It has been said that he's the most talented blitzer we've had in awhile. A format that prohibits blitzing hides his strength.

On the other hand, the one time I noticed him in coverage it looked to me like he had an MA. I could be wrong, because I don't know what the call was. Hopefully it was just an aberration. With his athleticism, one would hope that he'd be good at coverage.

Rough day for the refs and the BTN.

The opening graphics showed Larimore as the Scarlet center and the Gray NT.

The final punt of the game was on 5th down.
