does Florida have unlimited scholarship offers? No really, it seems like every kid commits to them..

They are losing a bunch of guys to the NFL.....I am completely dumbfounded on how a guy can walk away from a program, come back, and walk away again and still land all this talent. WOW......USC of the South.

Now even more thankful we got Hankins.....I don`t see anybody in this class sliding down to DT other than Baldwin possibly. Maybe JT should examine the softsell approach(which I like, but 18 olds don`t always see it like me)and ramp it up a notch or two. I sure do hope we finish strong to keep our strong classes going....we will need to keep up with the SEC. What they have 4 Championships in a row....two against us. One thing our staff does as good as anyone is develope what we have. Go Bucks

Not going to happen while JT is here, and I don't really think I would want it to. Maybe I'm just being naive, but I like to think our program gains a bit of moral high ground by encouraging kids to look around, not incessantly calling, etc.

That said, I do wonder about the way this recruiting season was handled. It seems like offers went out very slowly and, while I understand that the staff seems to try to turn an OSU offer into a valued commodity, it seems like there were too few offers this season, considering how many out-of-state national recruits were offered. One really has to wonder whether it wouldn't have been wise to go after a Jibreel Black, for example, or, if we miss on Henderson, an Andrew Donnal.

Question: is there any major college football program in the country that would benefit more from an early signing period than Ohio State?

Our staff does two things really well, IMO: develop talent and discover under-the-radar talent. There was a time when I didn't pay any attention to recruiting. I was--and still largely am--disgusted by the amount of attention directed at high school kids and the shenanigans, like these ridiculous hat episodes, that ensue. But, after we got stomped by UF in the '06 championship game, I really started to realize what a major component recruiting is when it comes to college football success, so I started to pay attention. UF, Bama and Texas are going to be tough to compete with over the course of the next four years. We've had a couple of really incredible recruiting classes in our own right these past two go-rounds, and should be in the mix of things as well. That said, I think 2011 needs to be a big year for us in recruiting . . . .

Your post is mostly dead on but as well as we've done with "under the radar guys" that we "develop well", just imagine if we actually recruited on the USC, UF, etc. Now the '08 and '09 classes are different stories...those classes combined are right on that elite level.

There are some good players in this class but you just have to cross your fingers and hope all of our commits make it in. Then from there, you have to cross your fingers and hope there isn't significant attrition. If it comes to pass, then I think the '11 class can make up for it.

Totally agree. For every Malcolm Jenkins or James Laurinaitas there are probably 1.5-2 Rocco Pentellos or T-Washingtons that the staff apparently saw something in but just never lived up to what they expected, for one reason or another. Simply put, I think you're taking more of a chance with a Malcolm Jenkins than with at Lamarcus Joyner, and although sometimes the under-the-radar recruit will work just fine or even better, probablility supports the proposition that signing a Lamarcus Joyner is the way to go, all things considered.

However, I don't think JT in Columbus will ever consistently recruit as well as an Urban Meyer in Gainesville or a Pete Carroll in LA. We'll always recruit well, but not that well, save for the years we have a really incredible in-state class (hopefully 2011) or a Mike Brewster taking part in the process, a la 2008.

Hey we are the BEST of the MIDWEST. Thats not bad......hard to sell warm sunny weather here. I would take our late spring, summer and fall weather over Florida`s anyday. A week in Florida is enough summer florida weather for me. Go Bucks
