2012-13 Big Ten Basketball

Taking a look at michigan tonight vs Nebby.

It seems like michigan likes to push the tempo, that's better for us. Burke and Hardaway will be a handful but, imo, Morgan will be the key to Sunday's game. Of course we'll have to shoot well also. I think Craft and Scott can cause Burke some problems though.

First half evaluation: Nebraska won't win this game more than likely but they are providing the blueprint on how to beat michigan.

Offensively - Ball movement and ball security are how to do it. Michigan does not like playing defense deep into the shot clock. Getting good shots and getting to the foul line are reasonable goals vs their defense.

Defensively - Keep them in front of you. They have several guys that can shoot but no real inside game or back to the basket game. If the Bucks can keep them in front they have a great shot to win based on what I can see in this first half.

*Note: michigan is not getting the open looks to fall tonight that they usually do so far. Close game at the half.

Second half evaluation - Michigan is really trying to force the pace, and it's working. Stauskas has come alive. Nebraska is very bad with the ball in their hands. Gallego's is their only shooter.

Offensively - michigan is a team of spurts. They are trying to drive the basket still but now a few more of the open looks on the perimeter are falling. When Burke goes out of the game, they lose a lot of direction. Keep them off of the offensive boards! Glenn Robinson III can be a force at times.

Defensively - Transition defense is pretty good, against Nebraska anyway. They can be beaten off the dribble. They aren't all that deep.

Time to just root for the upset. First glimpse of the scumbags and although they are way more athletic than usual, they are suspect in some areas. Teams have to be patient and move without the ball. Weather the storm when they go on a spurt and stay focused and the Buckeyes will come out with a victory on Sunday.

Minnesota looks very good after the win last night at top-15 Illinois. They play at Indiana on Saturday--that should be a very good game. Then they turn around and play scUM mid-week next week. That's a heck of a 3-game test.

LaQuinton Ross is not impressed with Illinois. Dude took to twitter last night and called their win over osu a "fluke" and that Illinois was "trash."

yikes.

Ross needs to stop looking at the spec in Illinois' eye and pay attention to the log in his own eye. Ross might have reason to crow if he were a star, but until he starts playing good defense and gets better on offense he is in no position to criticize anyone else individually, let alone a team that wacked him/OSU. And it was not a fluke, the OSU team was completely outplayed and out-toughed. If the OSU team doesn't toughen up on defense and play smart basketball on offense then they will lose many more games this year.

I can't stand anything about IU, although they have some surprisingly hot coeds, but their basketball environment is something I wish we could get at OSU. That place is loud as hell today against Minny.

Regarding the Indiana/Minnesota game that was one of the rougher games I have seen in this conference for quite some time. The officials (including Teddy) really left them play and I thought for a while that it might get out of hand. It was almost too rough IMO.

Indiana shoots 66% from the field in the first half and were up by over 20 only to see the Gophers give them a run for their money in the second half to put within 3 points and then fail to box out on a missed free throw by Indiana which might have cost them the game.

Nice stash Tubby :)
