Smoked 'em in a race to 1,000. Stakes have now been doubled. Loser uses the winner's avatar for a week. OSU currently leads 1,087-935...

Nevermind the fact we will absolutely smoke them when we play this fall in the newly formed Big Ten Rugby Conference...

I went to bed we were at 1,700.

Then the Plain Dealer, Coach Boals, Jared Sullinger, James Laurinaitis, David Lighty, Miles Craigwell, Lori Schmidt, Fox Sports Ohio, etc. started getting involved with helping us get to 2,000.

I woke up and we were at 2,205.

And here is the result:

Much more to follow once camp starts, but this is probably the most excited I've been for the start of an OSU rugby season.

Between the inaugural Big 10 Rugby Conference and the 46 recruited student-athletes coming in (plus two absolute stud transfers), we expect to be the team to beat in the first year of Big 10 Rugby. Our back row this season will be the best in the Big 10, if not one of the absolute best in the nation.

Here is the fall schedule:

Tue Aug 14th First Day of Training
Fri Aug 25th 15's Scarlet-Gray Game (Intrasquad Scrimmage)
Sat Aug 25th @ Bowling Green (Sevens)
Fri Aug 31st vs Miami of Ohio (Sevens and 15's)
Fri Sept 7th vs Cincinnati
Fri Sept 14th Buckeye Sevens Invitational/Old Boys Weekend
Sat Sept 15th Buckeye Sevens Invitational Championship
Sat Sept 22nd @ Purdue
Sat Sept 29th vs Indiana
Fri Oct 5th vs Wheeling Jesuit University
Sat Oct 13th @ Michigan State
Sat Oct 20th vs Michigan
Sat Oct 27th @ Indiana

The Buckeye Sevens Invitational, which coincides with the Cal football game, will feature Ohio State, Cal, Notre Dame and Navy...four traditional powers playing a two day round robin, with the championship taking place Saturday morning. The winner of the Big 10 Rugby Conference will challenge the #2 seed out of the East for a spot in the national tournament.

And then there's that little game on October 20th.

Following up on the last post...

Rejuvenated.

That's the best way to describe the program (and myself...probably not coincidentally).

Forty-six recruited rugby players and two transfers begin their OSU rugby careers tonight with the first practice.

We have a flyhalf coming in from Arizona State that we expect to compete for the vacant spot right away. Our other transfer played football at Davidson College last year but spent the summer at the Natal Sharks training academy and will compete for a back row job this fall.

Again, here is the fall schedule:

Tue Aug 14th First Day of Training
Fri Aug 25th 15'sScarlet-Gray Game (Intrasquad Scrimmage)
Sat Aug 25th @ Bowling Green (Sevens)
Fri Aug 31st vs Miami of Ohio
Fri Sept 7th vs Cincinnati
Fri Sept 14th (Buckeye Sevens Invitational)/Old Boys Weekend
Sat Sept 15th (Buckeye Sevens Invitational Championship)
Sat Sept 22nd @ Purdue
Sat Sept 29th vs Indiana
Fri Oct 5th vs Wheeling Jesuit University
Sat Oct 13th @ Michigan State
Sat Oct 20th vs Michigan
Sat Oct 27th @ Indiana

The Buckeye Sevens Invitational includes Ohio State, Cal, Navy and Notre Dame and coincides with the Cal football game. Will have more details as they are available.

See you all October 20th.

Season opener against Miami (OH) tonight at 7PM at Beekman Park.

Plan to start all freshmen and sophomores. Let them get a run in and see where we are. If we need to send the upper classmen in, which we better not, then will make adjustments at half time. But I think with the athletes we have in this year's recruiting class, we should be fine.

Opened up with a 54-14 win over Miami using entirely underclassmen.

The regular starters are officially chomping at the bit and we plan to unleash them this Friday night against Cincinnati.

I know Mikey's Late Night Slice will be there as well as another food truck they are working on.

Also, the games will be available on UStream as well.
