2012 Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

Football | 5A final: Another Westerkamp helps Montini capture repeat title

Jordan Westerkamp, whose brother Christian caught a touchdown pass and two-point conversion in the final minute of Montini's 29-28 victory over Joliet Catholic in last year's state final, had five of his seven receptions, 127 of his 146 yards and all three of his touchdowns in the first half as the Broncos built a 28-7 lead.

"The Westerkamp connection was on fire again today," said 32nd-year Montini coach Chris Andriano, who won his third state championship at the Lombard school. "Jordan is a special receiver. There aren't too many kids with his ability.

"This is something he has been working on since he was a little kid, so it's not a surprise. His dad (Bob) was a great player for us in the 1980s, his brother was the hero of last year's championship game and now Jordan is just a junior. I guess I'm coming back next year."

The kudos directed at TheRinger are definitely appreciated (note it's now thE not thA). When Charles started thAringer, it was a hobby and basicly a one page blog. As it evolved, he was able to purchase thEringer domain as well as make multiple improvements. What you see today is thanks to Charles' leadership as well as the input and work of many within TheRinger community.

Regarding the 2012 rankings, that list is actually from November. At that time, Adolphus Washington (Taft HS) just missed the 150. My sense of the sentiments expressed in discussions since that time are that he will be in our updated rankings due in March. My personal ratings had him as a 5 star and the top player in Ohio for the '12 class. Everything I've seen since then reinforces that rating.

Also at that time, Dwayne Stanford (Taft HS) and Se'Von Pittman (Canton McKinley HS) had just completed their first year as full time starters. We have film on both and each will be evaluated for the next round of rankings. The sense I get on these two is they are highly thought of and both have a very good chance of breaking into the updated list. My personal rating for Pittman was as a 4 star and the #10 player in the Ohio '12 class.

I had not completed an evaluation of Stanford at that time. My highest rated WR for '12 in Ohio was Corey Smith (Akron Buchtel HS), the #5 player overall. He did not make the initial TR 150 either. From what I've seen of Stanford, it's likely he'll move ahead of Smith in my ranking and possibly into the next TR 150. He is definitely on our radar as evidenced by Nick's article on him and Ifeadi Odenigbo. (LINK)

As for what it means to be "on our radar", we have about 350 class of '12 recruits in the national database. All 3 of these recruits are in that group. That should tell you that all are very highly thought of. The goal is to get the database released and posted within the next 2 weeks.

Thanks again for the kind words.

My apologies but I've just been informed that rather than putting out a revised 150 at the end of March, the plan now is for the next update to be a top 250 in June. After that, a top 500 in late August. Some techie upgrades will be taking precedence over the next few weeks - article styling & ranking, advanced search, & releasing the database...
