2013-14 Ohio State Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

Let's get this rolling... Who are your projected starters? It probably won't be much of a surprise but my guess is:

Craft
Smith
Thompson
Ross
Williams

I could also see Scott starting instead of Smith, depending on match-ups. I think the most improved in the off-season will be McDonald... no reason why except a hunch.

Well, if they don't add anyone else McDonald is a virtual lock to see a lot more minutes. He has size and athletic ability but needs more experience. I am hoping they add another big man through the graduate transfer route for 2013-14 because they really need some help there.

Likely starting 5 at this point is Craft, Smith, Thompson, Ross, Williams (A). Scott and McDonald have the inside track for the #6 and #7 spots. Will be interesting to see if any of ADV, Williams (K) or Loving will earn a role, hopefully at least one and ideally 2 of them would earn a role. Certainly the tourney showed that having a deeper rotation is very important because they call a lot of fouls, so foul trouble at crucial junctures is inevitable, and you need all the offensive options you can possibly pull out of your bag of tricks.

Since Matta has been here once he sets a starting lineup it usually stays that way and he tends to lean toward his upperclassman. For that reason, I do not think that Scott will start ahead of Smith. I see him getting a lot of playing time but I just do not seem him in the starting rotation. Now if he dramatically improves his shot that may be…. I guess I just do not see that happening.

I share this hunch. The battle for playing time between Amir and Trey could be interesting. I hope Amir improves his quickness, aggressiveness and ball handling skills during the off season.

We need to add a big man I don't care who it is. Can you imagine if Amir rolls an ankle or something? Just need a body for at least a year.

There is no margin for injury. If Williams or McDonald goes down, LaQuinton might be playing center. We know Matta loves a guard oriented offense, but that would be ridiculous.

You, watched them at the end of the season...right? ...

and besides, Trey would play center, LQR would be at 4.
He mentioned McDonald in his post. He said what if Williams and McDonald would both go down. I do not that they could go to their small lineup like they did at the end of this season but Thomas played some center while he was in high school. I do not know about Ross.

You're assuming Trey and McDonald are the same person. Valid assumption.

Would be a very good pickup. Averaged 8 ppg in 20 min and those numbers are down from his previous two years. Would at the least give us some protection if Amir or McDonald gets injuries and based on numbers Black is more of an offensive threat then those two.
