UW at #23? I'm [censored]ing furious. I'm starting my computer on fire.

Eh, I mean maybe a little low, but you did just lose one of the best running backs in the history of the game (at least from a statistical standpoint), and even though we don't give Bielma much credit here, one of the better coaches in the country (probably top 20).

Haha, I was kidding. It's about right.

Also, I see Arkansas got one vote coming off a 4-8 season. GEE I WONDER WHO VOTED FOR THEM HMMMM.

But they were 4-8 in the SEC, which is good for the top 25.

Only Auburn, Kentucky, and Missouri didn't get votes out of the SEC.

I'll disagree here. I think much of their success was Paul Chryst. After he left, they were pretty mediocre last season. I think Butthead's a pretty mediocre coach, actually. I fully expect him to be devoured by the SEC.

But, yeah, lotta question marks on that team this year.

I should point out that they rightfully didn't receive votes as the votes are for the top 25 teams, and these three should all fall somewhere between 26 and 34 or so.

In light of the Coaches poll being released and people complaining about Ohio State's schedule, I decided to look at the top 5 ranked teams.

#1 Alabama - 1 FCS team and two ranked teams on their schedule.
#2 Ohio State - 1 FCS team and three ranked teams on their schedule.
#3 Oregon - 1 FCS team and three ranked teams on their schedule.
#4 Stanford - 0 FCS teams and five ranked teams on their schedule.
#5 Georgia - 1 FCS team (technically) and four ranked teams on their schedule.

Why do we not hear complaints about Alabama's schedule or Oregon's or praise for Stanford's and Georgia's?

Option #1: because talking heads are stupid and worthless.

Option #2: because preseason polls are worthless and stupid no matter what you use them for.

To be fair, the three ranked teams Ohio State plays average a ranking of 21, so the cut off of "top 25" teams, viewed as one group, really overstates Ohio State's difficulty of schedule. "25" is not a magical number.

For instance:

If you look at top 25 teams: OSU - 3 | Alabama - 2

If you look at top 15 teams: OSU - 0 | Alabama - 2

If you look at all teams receiving votes (top 54): OSU - 4 | Alabama - 7

"25" is not a magical number and we play a few teams just inside that number, but none highly ranked, and one receiving votes but unranked.

I'm not saying that I agree with the talking heads regarding strength of schedule, I am just answering the question posed above. :)

I find it very easy to root for Stanford, so wouldn't mind seeing OSU vs. Stanford :) Wouldn't it be great to see Shaw vs. Urb? Lot of IQ points out there.....

That being said, it's clear that Bama has a gift of a SEC schedule this year, the exploits of their schedule are well documented. I'm impressed with the Cardinal's SOS though.

Bama's only true "tough" games are home against LSU and @ A&M.....they have some other interesting games but I think anyone would admit they'd be beyond shocked if VT, Ole Miss, errr....that's about it....beat them. Their schedule is defined by 2 games and the CC, that's it. Not saying OSU's is any better, but that Bama has an average schedule.
