Agenda driven post? Someone needs to seriously get a grip.

How about you actually come up with something, anything of substance of your own and we'll take it from there.

So cherry picking facts and using them to trash a group is "something, anything of substance?" I didn't realize targeting individuals was a hobby of yours, but to each his own. Have someone read these to you if you're still having trouble deciphering what is going on:

Wow--pretty quick to jump to conclusions, are we? I guess that is a hallmark of bigotry.

Are you intentionally being obtuse? Or did your unrequited love for TDJC just drive you off the deep end?

Ulu already covered much of the view on the Stanford band from the ND perspective. Help me out here, should I restate in it's entirety the ND centric view in my post or is it OK to just cite the original document in my footnotes?

BTW is there any particular reason you didn't didn't start pulling your hair out and screaming because Ulu only relayed part of the story? Of course we both know the answer to that, don't we? You aren't looking for a full and accurate accounting you're just not interested in hearing any part of the story that doesn't conform to your particular worldview.

Now given that's what I was actually touching on with my mocking post your reaction is sweet sweet irony.

Despite your moniker you have actually managed to become the poster child for the self-absorbed (and reviled) Irish fans who can only function in an echo chamber.

Therefore sir, congratulations! You are the internet equivalent of the female ND fan who assaulted a dude in a band because he wore a nun's habit. Next time I'll just remember to stay dressed up like an Orthodox Jew so as not to drive you to violence.

On the other hand perhaps your delicate sensibilities would be better protected by taking another page from the institution that you worship with such fervor & place me on ignore... ban me from your personal stadium if you will. After all that is the Notre Dame way is it not? Silence dissenting view points through whatever means available.

OK for everyone else now that NDin07 has done his best Irish Eyes impression and banned me from his personal message board in regards to the 97 show by the Stanford band that so upset certain people I believe their official statement states the point well:

"We think it absurd that Notre Dame can claim a whole ethnicity as its mascot, and further characterize this ethnicity as belligerent: the Fighting Irish....Further, to represent the Irish, Notre Dame uses a leprechaun. Most Irish people we know are not, in fact, leprechauns."

In short LSJUMB was actually pointing out that Notre Dame's choice of a mascot is itself offensive & bigoted.

A point that is of course lost on a certain group that is only interested in looking to take offense and any real or perceived slight against itself.

Irony thy name truly is Notre Dame.

Have someone read these to you if you're still having trouble deciphering what is going on:

Ahh good for you! You found some newspaper stories that say absolutely nothing that hasn't already been covered by previous posters in this thread. That kind impeccable research deserves a cookie!

Of course neither of those stories has a damn thing to do with the 1991 incident where a Notre Dame fan ran out of the stands and physically attacked the Stanford drum major but hey if it makes you feel like you scored a point...well then bravo! I'll see if I can scare up a nice participation ribbon to hang on your wall.

On a less mocking note, do you seriously believe that you somehow brought new information to this discussion*? To be clear we still haven't moved past the point of you not offering anything of substance to the discussion. Sorry but blind anger isn't substantive.

I didn't realize targeting individuals was a hobby of yours, but to each his own.
Please feel free to point out what 'individuals' I was targeting. The idiotic ND fan who was so overcome that she felt the need to commit assault? Sure I'll happily cop to that. Mocking idiots is good for 'murica.

Wow--pretty quick to jump to conclusions, are we?
I think it is pretty clear to anyone with two brain cells to rub together that I was doing nothing more than pointing and laughing at you.

Really I'm just glad you aren't the type to jump to conclusions, just think of how you would react if that were th....err nevermind.

I guess that is a hallmark of bigotry.
Yep that's it, you nailed me Bill Donohue! Kudos on once again rooting out anti-Catholics that only exist in your **fevered imagination.

Am I being an ass? Damn right I am. My natural inclination towards asshollery aside, being presented with someone who is apparently uncontrollably angry while at the same time showing no signs that they have any idea what is actually being discussed tends to aggravate that tendency in me.

Now since this thread is still about the Rose Bowl I will have to admit that it was a great experience to be able to watch a school from which I have a degree win the game while knowing that the institution does things the right way.

*this is where I have an expression of abject horror because I've suddenly realized that the person I've been humoring might honestly think that they're making a coherent argument.

**Unless of course you're not actually Bill Donohue in which case please excuse the (understandable) confusion.

LSJUMB

As an OSU and Stanford Alum (GSB), I'll try to shed a little light on the situation with the LSJUMB...but will start out by saying that there is just no way to compare them with a traditional band; much less the TBDBITL.

Our band is all about buckeye spirit and putting on the best "traditional" marching band performances of any band in the country. The internal competition between band members is fierce, they are well "coached" and bust their asses with tremendous amounts of hard work. They are the best. Yeah....they get into trouble every once in a while with the band-geek-hazing stuff, but even with that, they are a constant source of pride to Buckeye nation. I have seen people's jaws absolutely drop when they watch them live for the first time.

The first thing to understand about LSJUMB begins with the "M" in their name because they eschew the term "marching" band. They call themselves a "scatter" band. The real truth is that they are a musical and/or performance anarchy, led by whatever idea or theme is appealing to them at the time no matter how politically incorrect it may be. They are really pretty decent musicians, but deep down in side they are very, very smart kids with a wicked creative bent that believe that they carry a tacit license for challenging any and every convention that attracts their attention. I like to think of them as what the Harvard Lampoon staff would be if they played instruments and were allowed to perform at football games. Their performance at ND was the perfect storm of stored up creativity and energy that unleashed itself against the often hypocritical and self aggrandizing behavior of the Domers at home. Personally, I laughed my ass off (I was not there). The usual response of the Domers, which is to look down their academic noses at perpetrators of such heinous "crimes" simply doesn't work with Stanford students because Stanford is an academically superior, more relevant (Silicon Valley) and fun loving institution.

Like all anarchies, they will be stopped only when some greater force (e.g. the Administration) decides to put the hammer down....and not one second sooner. I really don't think that they (Administration) care a whole lot to tell you the truth as long as whatever they do doesn't result in a SWAT team being summoned or a call from the White House. I would posit that they actually get a charge out of them; as most of us do.

In closing I get to have my cake and eat it because I get to keep my first musical love (TBDBITL) while having a blast with my wild ass musical mistress on the side (LSJUMB).

As for the Domers...[censored] 'em if they can't take a joke about wearing green jackets, bad beards....you get the idea

Hmm. Thanks for the insight. I had just never seen anything like it before.
