2013 U.S. Open at Merion

Rooting for Phil to finally get an Open this weekend. Els, McIlroy and Woods are all in range so it could be an interesting final 2 rounds.

I'm guessing his renewed contract is smaller, but can you believe how much 'Mickey Mouse' was paying that guy to leave SI.

He's honestly a shadow of his former SI self.

Well, it is... uh... too small. And it is part of the problem ([cough] Sergio [cough])

However... umm... no shit. Its Merion.

Now, I don't mean to sound like I'm some kind of golf course historian... but, one of the very interesting things to me about the Open (both of them really, but, there's a smaller rotation for the British, so, you can get kind of used to them.) is spending a little time learning about the history of the places they play... and I say places on purpose, not just the courses and the history of them, since in this case, and others, the club predates the golf course. Even in 1912 there wasn't a whole heck of a lot of open suburban sprawl in that area.

I am really pulling for Stricker tomorrow. Wouldn't mind seeing Mahan or Phil win either. I think watching the leaders play 17 and 18 tomorrow will be a lot of fun. 18 is unreal. 530ish yards...uphill....with a tight fairway...and a heavily guarded green.

It has been five years since Tiger won a major. Jacks record is looking increasingly safe. :oh:

Tiger is 10 strokes back, but that could mean he'll get to play before the storms hit. This course doesn't play to his liking, but this is a field of paranoid choke artists if Tiger makes any kind of run.

That being said - Go Golden Bear!:io:
