2014-15 Ohio State Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

If Ross had stayed where would this team be ?

Ross wouldn't fit into the offense that clearly flows through DAR.

Wing isn't where this team has issues, it has issues down low with bigs who don't finish strong. Ross is NOT the player this team is missing - a guy like Sully/Oden/Dials would make this team absolutely deadly.

And to echo what @LitlBuck said - get over it already.

Hard for OSU to get above an 8 seed IMO. One top-50 win all year. Other teams already have more and will have chances to get more, so OSU needs a few more to get some upward mobility. SMU had four top 50 wins last year and didn't make the tourney with a 23-9 record.

I really am not worried about were Ohio State get seeded and I did not realize that SMU had joined the Big Ten conference..

Ha. You're right it is not a great comparison as SMU had a few bad losses that OSU won't have and not as many top-100 wins. I do want to see OSU maximize their chances of advancing though, and typically the higher your seed, the better your odds.

"I went to the (assistant) coaches and they said 'go to (center Terence) Dials,' and I said 'fellas, do you really want to play these guys for another five minutes?...we're going for the win," Matta said. "Then I drew the play up and (the players) started celebrating and I said, 'woe...we have to make the shot,' and then we break the huddle and the place is going crazy and (point guard) Brandon Fuss-Cheatham says 'now who and I passing to?'...and I'm like, 'the guy that's going to be wide open,' and sure enough he was."

Correction: *%% that, we're going for the win!!!11!!! - Thad

With Daequan Cook right behind them watching it all (and the Thad 5 was officially on its way)

Gus Johnson was fantastic in the call of the end of this game. I really miss not having Gus Johnson doing NCAA tournament games anymore. Someone people don't like him but I think he was great.

I watched a few Gus Johnson's greatest highlights and this one is usually on them all. That and the Ohio State vs Xavier 2007 comeback when...Lewis for 3!!!!!!!!

So the last game of the season ends in major disappointment as the Buckeyes suffer their worst beatdown of the season. The regular season ends at 22-9 overall and 11-7 in the B1G, 6th in the conference.

The B1G tourney will afford the Buckeyes a chance to bounce back from humiliation or curl up in the fetal position and lose to a lower seed. I'll be interested in seeing how they respond from here on out.

The irony is he now calls more regular games where his enthusiasm and catch phrases can be a bit much.

Tepid regular season match-up in bball or fball? Eh, he's had a bit too much caffeine.

Post season altering clash going down to the wire? Peerless and a perfect match for the insanity and emotion of March madness (or the right cfb game)

Dickie V could never dream of summoning the genuine emotion (let alone the delivery) of Johnson watching something stupendous.

Just because some match-ups seem like they're "Made for TV", I think the Buckeyes will play Cincinnati or Xavier in the second round (first game) of the NCAA Tournament.

I would actually expect that, and I would also expect that they will be placed in the same bracket as Kentucky. I don't know why, it just seems like that is what the selection committee normally does, especially now with the emphasis on keeping teams regionally based according to location if possible.

Yes, teams that are closer geographically and in separate conferences often tend to be near each other, it is a logical placement even without any story lines. OSU has been in a pod of 4 (potential 1st weekend opponents) with at least one team from in state or a neighboring state in 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2009, 2007. Not in 2010 or 2006 though.

So any predictions for the selection show tonight? I am going to guess a #10 seed, their resume is weaker in terms of top-50 wins than just about any other at-large in the field, and whenever OSU has had a team that should be in the 5-9 seed range it always seems like they are a little bit lower seed than I expected. I saw one analyst had OSU in the "last 4 in" with their field projection.

Lunardi has OSU at a 9 seed, and Bracket Matrix has OSU as the worst of the four 8 seeds. That would indicate to me OSU will likely end up as a 9 seed, but I agree with you--it generally seems OSU is seeded a bit lower than expected. Actually, I'd prefer a 10-seed. Sure, the first round opponent would be slightly tougher, but I'd much rather face a 2 seed in the second round as compared to a 1 seed.

Not sure who that guy is, but he's get zero credibility if he really thinks that.
