2015-2016 Ohio State Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

I don't see this team making the tourney. The only possibility to me is to finish at least 3-1 and make a deep run in the B1G tournament. Deep being making it to the championship game. The team has just been too inconsistent IMO.

I'll go on record: if we don't go 3-1 over our last four games, we have no chance to make the NCAA tourney.

That would be a 20-11, 12 - 6 conference record team being left out of the tourney.

Nevermind, it just hit me that you're saying a 19-12, 11-7 team would be left out, and we need the 20-12, 12-6 mark. I don't think 19-12 is a lock, but I definitely wouldn't call it "no chance".

I would agree with that prediction, but with how hot they can get, how average sparty can look on occasion and how much Iowa just got embarrassed, they certainly have a chance.

Look at our RPI.

Look at our BPI.

Look at our kenpom ranking.

Then get back to me on whether we'd have a ghost of a chance at 19-12.

We wouldn't. Overall record is only part of the picture.

I've seen a recent RPI and that is my main worry. Two games against MSU and one against Iowa will probably raise our RPI regardless of whether we win or lose, but we need a significant jump. My feeling that we have a decent shot at 19-12 isn't based on the overall. It's more the 11-7 BIG record that I think is hard to overlook.

We may actually get to see this scenario. I think a 2-2 finish probably more likely than 1-3 or 3-1.

The way college hoops is going this year nothing would surprise me. They have to beat Nebraska first though. A loss to Nebraska pretty much eliminates them unless they went on to win the B1G tourney.

The absolute craziest thing is this team could upset it's way to the BiG title if they get hot shooting and give Kam some help on offense while ratcheting up the defense. There are little windows that make you say "damn, these guys could be really good." Then someone smashes the window and you're left watching it rain.

There's hope with effort. That's all they can do.

Have to beat Sparty and Iowa in Columbus - those early season home losses continue to haunt us, as we expected they would. Winning at East Lansing would be a bonus (and a surprise). I agree with others, wins in 2 of the 3 games and at least one B1G tourney win puts the Bucks in contention for a berth. Anything less and we're a lock for the NIT.

I thought Ohio State had zero chance to make the NCAA tournament after their non conference but Ohio State has won all 9 games against the bottom half of the big 10 so no bad losses but the problem is they have won only 1 game against NCAA potential teams in conf. They likely need to win 2 of their next 3 games to have a shot at the NCAA tournament. Right now Ohio State has the N win vs Kentucky which is turning out to be huge with the way Kentucky has turned it on lately despite their inexplicable loss after that BS technical last night but I digress...

Wins - N-Kentucky 12, H-Michigan 55.

The non conf is really the killer here losing 3 straight games early in the year 2 home vs UTA and La Tech then losing to Memphis those are 3 teams with RPI's over 100 and losing at home to a team with RPI above 100 is a real killer to the RPI which explains why Ohio State has an RPI of 75 right now. Had they won those games their RPI would be probably around 50 or better and Ohio State would be 21-7 instead of 18-10.

Those 3 losses I think are the anchor that keeps Ohio State out of the big dance without winning 2 of their final 3 games.

Win 2 of the final 3 you now are up to 4 wins vs teams in the NCAA tournament including 3 wins vs "protected seeds" which is huge.

I just don't know if they are good enough even at home to beat Michigan State or Iowa teams that would likely be 2 or 3 seeds right now.

I wouldn't expect a win at Michigan State so better win the next 2 games.

Then if they can win 2 of the next 3 they probably need to avoid a bad loss in the Big 10 tournament no losses to any non NCAA teams.

Actually that was the one and only time in my life I rooted against Kentucky. I was sick to my stomach when Ohio State and Kentucky were put in the same region that year. I felt Ohio State had a better chance to win a championship that year and so this was the one time I rooted against Kentucky and I was devastated when Ohio State lost. I also knew Kentucky was going to be loaded in 2012 with Anthony Davis and other players. If Kentucky had went on to win the championship would have been the only way I would have been ok with Ohio State losing that game.
Yes we know. You are a bandwagon fan and because Kentucky was worse, you ditched them temporarily for OSU, all the while knowing your most frequent bandwagon would be repainted and sexy a half year later.

And no, you're absolutely not allowed to start talking up this late arriving bandwagon let alone join it as though you're a fan of OSU.

I know it's really difficult for some to understand here but you can be a fan of more than 1 team. I said it 100 times Ohio State is my favorite football team I don't care about any other football teams. College basketball is different I like many teams but Kentucky is my favorite, Ohio State my 2nd favorite and I like Xavier and Cleveland State too. So sue me.

Well isn't that convenient that you like Ohio State football but not Kentucky football gee I wonder why that is? Also rather convenient that you like Kentucky basketball over Ohio State basketball I wonder why that is?
