Game Thread 2015 National Championship Game: (2) Oregon vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 12th @ 8:30p ET, ESPN

From one of the Duck sites posted earlier:

Oregon's record vs teams ranked AP #1 or #2

0-19-1

My game analysis: No OSU turnovers the Buckeyes win. Also, from watching a few of Oregon's games the past 10/15 years, assume every Oregon punt is a fake punt no matter what the field position.

My conundrum: Watched the entire WI game and OSU won 59-0. Didn't watch the 'Bama game and OSU won. In fact, still haven't watched as I'm waiting for the torrent.

All good things to those who wait ...

:urban2::urban2::urban2::urban2:
Well I believe the Buckeyes are technically still ranked 5th in the AP poll so technically that stat doesn't matter. :P

I really like our DB's against their WR's though after seeing them do a really nice job with Cooper. They don't have someone like that and that'll allow our defense to be a little more free and not as concerned with the home run hitter. I'm not saying Oregon can't hit the home run but rather I think our guys can play man up more so this game which should free more people to stop the run. Bama was tough because you were afraid of getting hit deep but then also afraid of how physical they were but with Oregon the fear seems to be more so centered around their Tempo.

You don't cover Devin Smith or Thomas with your 2 and 3 option at DB and now Oregon is also without D.Allen who IMO was the player most likely to keep us honest deep. I like our matchup of Grant/Apple/Bell/Powell and I think OSU comes out and trusts our Db's to cover their men allowing for pressure and tight coverage.

I feel the same way about this game as I do Wisconsin for some reason. Not that itll be a blowout but that I just like the matchup.

Cashwell- Oregon is no where near what you guys were up front. You were #1 in rush defense for a reason

I like our chances as well. It will be interesting to see what kind of D Fick and Ash draw up. Like all games it will come down to the trenches and how much pressure and havoc our DL can create.

No disrespect towards Oregon or any of their fans that may drop by here leading up to this game, but uh, yeah...

There's no fucking way our D doesn't come into this game with their hair on fire looking to collect souls for the post National Championship feast. I know Oregon will be the best offense we've faced this year but I really don't think it will matter. They're out for blood, and it's been building all year. They may give us some issues with regards to tempo, but their speed isn't anything revolutionary.

On the other side of the ball, I really believe EZE and the SLOBS up front will be cracking skulls and breaking bones.

Out of respect for the fact this is the NC game, I won't predict a crazy score, but I don't think it'll be in doubt past the first quarter.

Bucks come in BLOOD...THIRSTY...and drink their fill. Oregon puts up a fight until we string together a few 3 & outs on D in the second quarter, and Bosa gets to Mariota a few times.

tOSU wins another NC. Urban Meyer becomes the fourth Buckeye coach to do so.

54-31

I tried to convince my boyfriend to sign up, but he threw one of his teensy little fits when he saw all the duck-hunting posts.

(He has just a wee anger management problem.)

So, for now, I guess you'll have to settle for just one fan. I'm a fan. I'm a duck and a fan...of the Ducks. I'm a duck Duck fan.

duck Duck fan...that reminds me of something or other...

I'm ready for those lousy duck hunters now. Bring it on.

&*^@#!*%$#!!!

Just checked Stubhub: $888 for the cheapest seats right now. Ouch. This game is only 3 hours from my house, but that's rich for my blood.

Maybe so, but considering it's reasonable driving distance that you don't even need to book a hotel, you may never get another chance in your life to see the Bucks play for all the marbles for less money.

You have to pull the trigger.

I'm originally from Eugene, but lived in Tacoma for several years, so I have a pretty good perspective on how the Huskies hate us. Trust me, the feeling is VERY mutual. They've had their noses in the air ever since they split the championship with Miami back in 1990. They've been really hating us lately since we've beaten them 11 years in a row AND Mariota won the Heisman. They've never had a Heisman winner. Poor guys. Sniff, sniff...Lol.

Most people forget that Oregon has had success before Chip Kelly arrived as offensive coordinator in 2007. The Ducks finished #9 in 2000 and #2 in 2001 with a win over Colorado in the Fiesta Bowl. Practically everyone in the country agreed that we should have played Miami for the championship that year, but the BCS screwed us by picking a Nebraska team that had just lost by 4 TDs to Colorado in their conference championship game.

I agree about some of the bandwagon fans, though. A lot of people want to be part of something special. We'll see how long they stick around if we ever have a down year or two.

I've been a Duck fan since I was a young boy and remember a lot of 2-9 seasons. I appreciate everything that Phil Knight has done for the university. He's obviously a great part of our success.

However, it was Rich Brooks who worked hard to lay the foundation for Oregon to get the facilities built so that the Ducks could become competitive. He went to the powers that be, the alumni, school president, AD, etc and tried to make them understand that in order to compete on a national level, they were going to have to be willing to invest in themselves.

Mike Bellotti continued what Rich Brooks started and had decent success on the field, but because of that, he had a hard time holding onto offensive coordinators. We lost Jeff Tedford to be head coach at California, Andy Ludwig (mutually parted ways), Gary Crowton (who won a national championship the following year at LSU) and more. We were also 10-2 in 2005.

Also, the Ducks aren't the only team in the country that has rich boosters. I'm sure the Buckeyes have access to a few people with deep pockets. Texas does, Oklahoma State has T. Boone Pickens, etc. There almost has to be for any program to be successful at this level. We just happen to stand out more than most because of the Nike brand.

Anyway, the Huskies suck with a capital SUCK!

Go Ducks!

I think UW's noses have been in the air since the beginning of time... they're not much different from Michigan in that respect.
That said, the whole city of Seattle generally rolls its collective eyes at all the attempts to generate "rivalry" with Portland and Oregon as a State. When I lived there nobody really cared about UW football during the season, once the realization that they sucked once again came home to roost. There was practically a parade down 1st ave when they beat USC w/Sark though. It reminded me of when Elway won the Super Bowl in Denver w/all the honking horns and such... and just for beating a mediocre USC. So maybe I just didn't personally know enough people who cared, but the UW grads I worked with reminded me of how I felt about the Browns... "when will it be time for preseason hype so I can be disappointed again?"

Just wanted to add that it is my firm belief that adversity not only builds character, it reveals it. A big reason I'm as confident as I am about this game has very little to do with Oregon.

The amount of shit this team has had piled on top of their heads over and over again this season is remarkable. What's truly astounding is that with a single exception (VaTech), they have eaten every single shit sandwich served to them like it was prime fuckin rib.

1. Senior QB, 2X B1G MVP is lost for the year before it even begins
2. Possible AA (at very least, probable all B10) DE lost forever before the season
3. Losing, at home to VaTech
4. Losing a teammate to suicide
5.Losing the Heisman caliber QB heading into the playoff, that replaced Heisman favorite QB

Anyone of those things have derailed entire seasons on their own. In fact, it's almost ridiculous that all of these combined did not tear this team apart

There is nothing Oregon can do, no lead they can build, no player they can injure, that will shake this Buckeye team.

It's destined to happen.

It was more a post about Oregon in big games as I know OSU is not ranked 1 or 2. Just like being 8-0 against Oregon is also meaningless. And being underdogs to MSU, Wisky, 'Bama and now Oregon was/is also meaningless. And never beating 'Bama until this year ...

Someone else already posted this info here or elsewhere:

OSU against Michigan State ~ 568 yards /// MSU's defense ranked #7 in yards allowed per game

OSU against Wisky ~ 558 yards /// WI defense ranked #4

OSU against 'Bama ~ 537 yards /// Alabama defense ranked #11

Oregon ranked #83 in yards allowed

Repeating my 1st post, if Ohio State has no turnovers they win 'cause they're gonna have no problem moving the ball against Oregon.

It appears the Buckeyes are currently on a mission ...

FSU's defense was not fundamentally sound. Two drives really stuck out to me - you can see them below from about 5:00 - 5:55

http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=espn:12109703&startTime=04:50

EDIT: Can't get them embed to work.

The first one, the corner jumps the wrong route and the safety didn't get over in time. Just piss poor defense. Oregon has a lot of different options off of the same play. The next series, they scored a long TD after running a bubble screen the play before. Next play, FSU jumps the fake screen and they get beat deep for the TD. Both were examples of poor discipline by the FSU DBs. Hopefully our coaches spend more time prepping our players for these multiple reads off the same look.
