I think the sad part is that it looks like this is pretty much all of the team is capable at this point. Sure you'll have games where the team plays completely out of its ass ala the Kentucky game. More often than not though, this is what you're gonna got. Maybe everyone is right and Matta's best days are behind him.

Well, this is going to be a rough year to watch. Again. I might take a page from @Fungo Squiggly and just not comment again this year. I do think it's time to find a replacement for Matta. Had a great stretch and was an amazing coach, but the 3 star freshmen and 2 star JUCO recruits are not getting it done and our best players left in a mass exodus. Just need a change.

Why was there all this hype in the offseason that Matta was really optimistic about this team? I like Matta but he's not getting the big recruits anymore and he seems unable to make these average recruits into a good team.

I watched the game last night and I saw a team that does not play inspired basketball. The problem is with the state of the program. Coaching, players and the fans. How can you blame a team that plays uninspired basketball to mostly an empty arena? Most of the night the Schott sounder like a graveyard. Pathetic!

However, you field this kind of team, how can you motivate the fans to show up to support them?

Coaching is lacking and it shows in the basic fundamentals. FT shooting, rotation on defense, movement on offense (players and passing). All of this can be fixed in practice.

Tate, Jackson, and Potter played a decent game. However Tate needs to work overtime with Jent on his FT shooting.

Loving and Lyle played like shit! A senior and supposedly you best player (Lyle) are suppose to be leading your team. Loving's attitude has a negative effect on the team and Lyle's inability to run the offense slows the team down. The two most talented, next to KBD, hurt the team more than they help them right now.

A starting five of Jackson, Lyle, KDB, Loving and TT with Tate, Potter, Bell and Cam coming off the bench. Note: just because they are coming off the bench doesn't mean they are playing less time during the game. Jackson runs the offense better than Lyle and gets the rest of the team more involved in the game. Bringing the four mentioned off the bench allows the coaches to plug offensive production off the bench at 3 positions (SG, SF, PF) with Bell playing a specific roll in rebounding and defense.

Maybe, a coaching change is needed; maybe not. But this team should be much better than last years and right now they are not.

How can you ask people to pay money and take the time to watch what has been put out on the floor the past few years?

It's been proven in sports over and over again, win and they will come. You have to put a good, winning team out there first.

I think the Thad era has come to an end if this is what his big comeback year is going to look like. A team with terrible fundamentals, little visible desire and not nearly enough raw skill to overcome those shortcomings.

Maybe they will flip the switch but it feels like we have been waiting for that for a few years now. I'm beginning to doubt it happens with this staff.

Had it covered Jax in my second statement. But I do agree, the Matta era could very well be coming to an end. Question is, who would they hire in his place?

No idea on who's next. I don't follow CBB that closely.

Doesn't really stand to reason that there isn't a young, hungry coach out there though.

I know it isn't like football where they could get anyone they want but still....it's Ohio State, you have resources, you have some tradition, you have the B1G and you only have to be good enough because well, it's a football school.

There's really no reason for Ohio State not to be in the NCAA tournament every year. The recruiting has been pathetic
