2016 tOSU Offense Discussion

2016 team PPG at 42.7 through the regular season. When factoring in defensive scores, the PPG is 38.6. Defensive scores and XP counted for 49 total (7 TDs). Ohio State had the 9th ranked scoring offense (not factoring defensive scores), and the 24th ranked total offense. As you could guess, OSU had the 9th ranked rushing attack (as per usual), and the 78th ranked pass offense.

I hope Urban Meyer is talking to Mark Helfrick if he is let go of Oregon. I would make an immediate change from Tim Beck if Helfrick is interested in coming in as QB/co-OC. Tell Tim Beck to go look for a division 2 HC job.
Thanks but no thanks... the dude couldn't develop his own QBs had to go find a couple D2 transfers that were finished products... dude is west coast Beck, stay away.

He also gave that school Dixon, and Marriotta. Their QBS were always on point when Kelly was running the show and Helfrich was the OC/QB guy.

He just ran out of bullets at QB. He wouldn't have that issue here and I strongly 2nd that Helfrich should come here.

Oregon has problems recruiting on the level to keep it a year in year out contender. The talent pool in their state is small and there is alot of competition for talent in the states close to them. Nike might be the biggest reason they can recruit at all. This is one of the reasons Chip Kelly was always one foot out the door year to year. He knew he had to be ahead of the curve scheme wise and had to work that much harder to get just get a top 20 recruiting class than any other top 5-10 programs.

Partially correct he was QB/OC from 09 to 12, so there was Masoli, Darron Thomas (inheritated), then 1 season of Marriotta who was then coached by Frost (btw he got better under Frost). You can put some of the blame on Frost as well ... Sorry but I dont believe this guy to be the QB guru everyone thinks. I think while Chip was there he was the QB coach in name only and after he left and Frost left... well I dont see much I like and I want him far far away... he and Tim Beck can go on a fishing trip together.

I don't think he is some sort of wizard but ask yourself would you rather have him or beck?

Yeah thought so lol

What is the point of a scenario where Urban fuckin' Meyer has to choose between Beck and a Helfrich? Helf is probably a much better QB coach but can't recruit and as Co-OC has nothing to offer but a first edition copy of Chip Kelly's playbook--which hasn't been updated and is rapidly decreasing in value. Urb seems to be quite adept at finding the rising star or the established talent ala Larry Johnson. Helfrich is neither.

Whatever happens, the status-quo cannot continue with QB coaching. I used to think we didn't have a deep threat, but now I think it's more about Barrett not seeing the field (so hard to tell though on an ESPN broadcast). He's definitely not as accurate as 2014 and doesn't anticipate routes opening up as well. He just moves to his check down as soon as possible. His completion percentage isn't too far off from 2014 or 2015, but it feels like the amount of passes behind the LOS has gone way up and is padding that stat. Haven't found a passing chart for a previous year yet to confirm that.

We do not need anymore recruiting rock stars... we need a coach who can go develop a QB and help them become elite.
