2016 tOSU Really Basic Defense Discussion

I am concerned though still with our interior. Early against Rutgers their back found some space and if not for us pouring it on they would be able to stick with that game plan.
Rutgers ran the ball 38 times for 83 yards, while passing just 16 times (3 completions) for 33 yards. It was the opposite of what you're insinuating, in that Rutgers had to abandon the pass because it was so bad. Of the 83 yard Rutgers gained on the ground, 13 came on a QB scramble by Laviano. So, essentially Rutgers ran for 70 yards on 37 carries (1.9 ypc). Their star RB Robert Martin had 40 yards on 13 carries, with a long of 13 yards...so aside from one really good run, he was held to 30 yards on 12 carries (2.5 ypc) despite coming into the game with a 6.2 ypc average.

D so good people have to invent things to worry about.

We're a lot better at disruption than sacking so far this season.

Which may sound like a criticism, but isn't. I think disruption is the better goal for a D-line.

Agreed. I'd rather be fcuking gangster against the run and disruptive of the pass (given the talent of our back end), especially against quick-release offenses. The law firm of Hubbard, Lewis & Bosa will be handling Harbooger's guy at the end of the year. I'm not even worried about that.

So quickly Jalyn Holmes has been forgotten. He's been the best DE so far this season.
