They do not, because past years' results are not relevant. They can win every game for the next five years. The only thing that should matter in the 6th year are the results of the 6th year.And maybe, just maybe much as I hate to say 'bama/Saban get the benefit of the doubt because they deserve the benefit of the doubt!

If they called a proper third down play to qualify for the bama game, I like their chances of burying Bama's half a team in deep enough of a hole to prevent a freshman comeback.

OSU's title game against Oregon was itself 2nd in viewers to the '06 Texas/USC game (going back to 1991). If the estimate of 28.443M viewers for last night's game holds up, that will be - at best - the 12th-most viewed bowl game "ever".

No, said they deserve the benefit of the doubt and the committee is supposed to pick the 4 best teams which they did. Of course last year the Buckeyes got the benefit of the doubt which they didn't deserve ie barely defeating a 3-9 Sparty 17-16 and getting lucky against ttun er as per usual the defense bailing out JT.

They "deserve the benefit of the doubt", as in, they deserve preferential treatment for being Alabama. That's ridiculous for anyone.
How many losses would Alabama need to have next season to override that "benefit of the doubt?" Would a four-loss Alabama team deserve to get in if the committee still thinks Saban could get them ready to beat the other three playoff teams?

Maybe, maybe not. The linked article at was the most-accessible overnight data I could find to address the question about whether the ratings would suffer due to the regional nature of this year's field. I would say they didn't suffer too badly.
