2017 College Football Playoffs (and Other Bowl Games)

But they lost their QB! Which apparently renders the rest of their team useless.

Stupid.

The only people who aren't aware of this reality are Clemson fans and the Committee. Unfortunately, we need the latter on our side.

Their QB played a good majority of the game too, it's not like he got hurt on the first play of the game. Not like they were running away with the game or anything when he was in there either.

Syracuse is a current 4-6 team in a conference thats in a major down year. Like I said above, not trying to talk up Iowa. They are nothing more than an average team and they kicked our butts. However they are not a Syracuse level team.

it's the way OSU lost to OU and Iowa. They weren't even competitive games. That's why I think they ultimately get left out, even if the stars do align for them the next few weeks. They made the committee look good in 14, made them look silly last year. I don't think they get the benefit of the doubt this year. Committee has been consistent with OSU all year and they clearly are bothered by their inconsistency, as they should be.

This team shouldn't be there, I agree with that. I'm not going to complain if it comes down to 2 teams and they get "left out"

I still think the ACC getting 2 teams at anyone's expense would be a major joke though.

I think Clemson's loss to Syracuse is worse than our loss to Iowa. It was a drubbing, yea, but SYRACUSE.....
I normally agree with ya, but Iowa broke off plunger after plunger in our ass and then laughed about it. Syracuse played their best game in several years against a Clemson team that was without their starting QB for over half the game and won by a FG. Sorry, but of all the losses by teams currently in the CFP top 10, our loss to Iowa was by far the worst. Here are the losses by the top 10 teams so far:

1. Alabama: none
2. Clemson: 27-24 at Syracuse
3. Miami: none
4. Oklahoma: 38-31 at Iowa State
5. Wisconsin: none
6. Auburn: 14-6 at Auburn, 27-23 at LSU
7. Georgia: 40-17 at Auburn
8. Notre Dame: 20-19 to Georgia, 41-8 at Miami
9. Ohio State: 31-16 to Oklahoma, 55-24 at Iowa
10. Penn State: 39-38 at Ohio State, 27-24 at Michigan State

I count three "blowouts", all of which occurred on the road (I don't consider out loss to Oklahoma "blowout" bad, since we led 10-3 early in the second half and it was 17-13 at the end of the third quarter). Georgia lost by 23 to a #10 team that was 7-2. The Domers lost by 33 to an undefeated #7 team. We lost by 31 to an unranked 5-3 team (which subsequently got held to 66 yards of total offense and zero offensive points the very next week). No loss by any current top-10 team is near as bad as our loss to Iowa.

I'm cautiously optimistic about our chances...hell be damned if we're undeserving, I'll welcome a shot at the title with open arms under any circumstances.

I think people are putting too much into the Iowa loss, as far as how the committee views it. While It's certainly an eyesore, and an ugly one for sure, I remembering hearing the committee say at some point that the quality of a loss isn't one of the more prominent criteria. Being hot at the end of the season with multiple wins over ranked teams and a conference championship certainly can outweigh the Iowa loss. Especially given how flawed many of the top teams are in college football this year.

There's a path to getting in, and it's not terribly unrealistic at all. That being said, you won't hear me complain one bit of we just miss the cut.

Interesting article comparing the unfavorable treatment from the committee between OU and Clemson

https://www.thescore.com/ncaaf/news...-4-oklahoma-the-biggest-loser-in-cfp-rankings

Bottom line to the argument is that OU has the "better" loss and 3 better wins than Clemson but is 2 spots behind.

This is based on last year, I don’t give a shit what they claim. Clemson was getting their heads kicked in by Syracuse with their starting QB. Dude got put out of the game because the ‘Cuse D was destroying him.

They’re getting a pass for two things that absolutely should not be part of the equation. Ridiculous.

Then again, I think Ohio State is getting the benefit of the doubt based on 2014, so...

Whether it's Ohio State getting in or the Big Ten getting left out. Either scenario is going to fan the flames for 8 teams, which is what I've wanted all along. 5 conference champs, top G5 school and 2 at-large. First round games at home stadiums. Swiss fucking watch if I understand it correctly.

If you can live with it potentially hurting The Game

The auto conference bid could lead to a year like this one where the B1G CCG is locked up beforehand and a coach is put in a tough position.
