2017 Offensive Coordinator Discussion

Do people really want Zach Smith gone...? That's absurd.

You don't fire one of the top 3 recruiters in college football.

This teams issue is play-calling and putting the kids in the right spots to succeed. We actually played to our weaknesses multiple times this year.....I thought we must be trying to work the kinks out in those specific areas....it turns out our OC(s) just don't have a clue. This will rectified, but this isn't on Zach Smith. Zach Smith isn't the one calling 21 pass plays in the first 27 offensive snaps we had.

This, plus wtf are people forgetting how much improvement we had with this group so far? There are lots of problems with this offense right now but Smith is not one...yet. Imo, he and Warriner have the only argument to stay right now.

Is that sarcasm?
You thought the wr core showed improvement?
How would you compare them to PSU's core?
Ed deserves to stay as a dedicated Ol coach.
His attempt at OC was a cluster.

Some real interesting rumors out there. I propose we activate the rumor mill board.

I don't have a problem with people questioning the WR development, but I think a strong argument could be made that the philosophy of recruiting athletes and trying to convert them to WRs has failed. That, along with a couple guys just being busts has hurt OSU badly. Victor and Hill support that. Both guys look very promising after just a year or two in the program.

Name a starting PSU WR that was a HS RB.

Name the starting OSU WR's this year that were HS RB's....

It's truly apples and oranges. It's also why a lot of credit should be given to this team for Making the playoff to begin with. We were a year early for sure....the WR group certainly needs more seasoning.

Still doesn't excuse the decision to try to become Texas Tech. Awful.....

Yep. Wouldn't be surprised to be the top 4 WRs next year to be Victor, Brown, Hill, and maybe a freshman.

After watching interviews with Beck, because I guess I'm a masochist, I dont think he's ever been all in on Urbans offensive philosophy.

It still blows my mind that 24 of our 27 first half plays were passes and Urban let it happen. Clemsons weakness was their run defense. Nothing we've done this season indicated we could ever succeed by throwing the ball almost 90% of the time.

I just...I can't even comprehend that stat.

I disagree. Braxton and Marshall are both NFL receivers now. Personally, I don't think it is as difficult as others do to become a wide out. You can either catch a ball or you can't. If you can't you play D. All of these guys have speed, agility, can jump, and have great body control. Running a route is not that difficult.

Becoming elite is another thing, but it isn't that hard to become a receiver. Look at Pryor. Probably the best the Browns have.

I am fine with taking athletes and making them receivers.

I would only be for shitcanning Zack if he had a major role in developing the passing attack. I have said for two years our routes suck, and I am not talking about the technique of our receivers coming out of a break, I am talking about the 3 or 4 piss poor options JT has to look at over and over and over that our competitors have a damn good idea of what is coming. Just as there is no misdirection in the running game, there is little imagination in the routes either. No rub routes, picks, screens, just vanilla post and flag, choice routes, options routes, sticks, outs, and none on time.

That's not real. I'll never watch that game again to test it, but I'm certain you're lying. That would just be pure idiocy if that were true. Which, obviously it's not. Can't be.

Jesus I didn't realize we passed 24 of 27 plays...now I'm fucking pissed.

Seriously the fact that UFM allowed this is absolute bull shit...

AS I SAID on game day... I don't care how many of you think I'm crazy. I would call a better game then those two coordinators we have.

Heres their mindset process...

1. Who do we need to get the ball to since he didn't get the ball last week.

2. Let's do the opposite of our strength

BTW In my drunken state on Saturday when JT went under center I yelled to the party "here comes the fly sweep"... then the play happened and of course it was a fly sweep for a loss of 5. I laughed out loud and I told them "if I know its coming what the fuck do you think the other coaches know"
