2019-2020 Ohio State Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

ncaa tournaments are largely about match-ups and good fortune (see: the oden team), neither of which can be predicted in november or even in early march, so i'll try to view this team irrespective of that. given our youth, depth, collective talent, quality play at all three units, and our coaching staff, the only two teams i think had a higher ceiling were 06-07 and 10-11. moreover, those teams had floors probably higher than this one, though the 06-07 team had a handful of stinkers at least through 20 to 30 minutes.

nova was only our 3rd game of about a 35-game season. that's both a reason to be cautious and a reason to be optimistic.

Best OSU team since '17-'18. Lol.

But seriously, that team only lost 3 B1G games (twice because stinkin' PSU/Tony Carr had our number). That is hugely impressive and I dunno if this season we will match that, I doubt it (but we also had a pretty easy conference road that season).

Tourney is a crap shoot. We might do better than the Round of 32 for the first time since '12-'13. We might not. God only knows.

It does seem like we will have the best all-around backcourt play and best overall quality depth since '12-'13.

that team also didn't have one non-conference win as good as nova or cincy. furthermore, it's possible to have a worse record but a better team. hard to use win-loss records when comparing two teams with different opponents. all i know is, if i'm forced to choose between the 2017-18 team and the 2019-20 team based on how they looked in the early non-conference, i'm taking the 2019-20 team and am not thinking twice about it. just walker/carton versus jackson/dakich makes it a no-brainer.

As I said, better all-around backcourt play and better overall quality depth this season. But we had a dynamite forward combo in senior Tate and RS-junior KBD, and a very solid 2-way starting 5 who had great court chemistry.

Difficult to compare, especially this early into the current season. I would agree that this team probably has the higher ceiling.

Like others have said, ceiling for this team looks pretty high. Definitely looking like a team that could win the B1G. Things I worry about are the absolutely horrendous displays of offense we've seen at times. Granted one of this displays came against what looks to be an excellent defensive team in Cincy during the very first game of the year. Back court play so far looks light years ahead of last year. Now I'm wondering if this team could possibly go 5-0 during that Cincy, Nova, UNC, UK, WV stretch.

I haven't gone to a collegiate basketball game in two decades.
Would you guys give me pointers on what my best path forward is for looking at tickets for UNC?
Live 75 miles away from there and think it would be great opportunity to see the team.

Sorry I don't have any UNC ticket wisdom, just came here to say I think this team is looking like it has the right blend for a deep tourney run. They have been able to withstand some injuries to good players without missing a beat. They have great depth and balance. To get to the F4, you absolutely have to be able to withstand foul trouble and maintain your toughness and quality as a team. In what looks like a down year for college basketball, if they are able to be at or near full-strength in March, I think this OSU team has a real shot at getting to Atlanta.
