2019 NCAA Baseball Tourney (Official Thread)

Fire BEALS!

The B1G Tourney title prolly saved his ass but the program should be better than it is. Not asking for National Titles but man maybe a super regional (aka sweet 16) every couple years? UConn, ND, ttun, Oregon St are all Northern teams with much more success than we are seeing. Its not like Ohio is devoid of baseball talent. We arent even the top team (maybe top 3?) in our own state!

NCAA Tournament Regionals Results At A Glance

By Joe Healy on June 3, 2019

After three days of regionals action, 10 teams have advanced to super regionals. Six spots remain going into the final day. Here's how it all stands going into Monday.

Through to Super Regionals

Nashville Regional: Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt went 3-0 at home this weekend, collecting a win Friday against Ohio State, 8-2, and then beating a competitive Indiana State team twice by scores of 8-5 and 12-1. The Commodores will stay home next weekend to take on Duke.

Next Up: Nashville Super Regional vs. Duke

Atlanta Regional: Auburn

After blowing out Coastal Carolina to begin its stay in Atlanta, and then walking off host Georgia Tech on Saturday night, Auburn punched its ticket to the Chapel Hill Super Regional with a 4-1 win Sunday against the Yellow Jackets. The Tigers have won back-to-back regionals for the first time in program history.

Next Up: Chapel Hill Super Regional vs. North Carolina

Athens Regional: Florida State

On a mission to send retiring head coach Mike Martin out with a bang, Florida State swept its way through the Athens Regional and made it look pretty easy. After smashing six home runs on the way to beating Florida Atlantic, 13-7, on Friday, the Seminoles beat host Georgia twice by a combined score of 22-4.

Next Up: Baton Rouge Super Regional vs. Louisiana State

Fayetteville Regional: Arkansas

Arkansas is back in a super regional after a sweep of the Fayetteville Regional. After claiming an 11-5 win against Central Connecticut State to kick things off, the Razorbacks out-pitched Texas Christian on back-to-back nights. First, Isaiah Campbell one-upped TCU lefthander Nick Lodolo on Saturday, and then three pitchers combined to shut out the Horned Frogs on Sunday.

Next Up: Fayetteville Super Regional vs. Mississippi

Starkville Regional: Mississippi State

With a 5-2 win against Miami, Mississippi State completed a perfect 3-0 weekend to move on to a home super regional next weekend against Stanford or Fresno State. After overcoming a scare from Southern to open the regional, Mississippi State captured decisive wins against Central Michigan and the Hurricanes to close it out.

Next Up: Starkville Super Regional vs. Stanford/Fresno State

Lubbock Regional: Texas Tech

Texas Tech is through to a super regional for the fourth time in six years after a 3-0 weekend at home. After running away from Army, 11-2, on Friday, the Red Raiders got it done with pitching in a pair of wins over Dallas Baptist by 3-2 and 3-0 scores. Next weekend, Texas Tech will be playing at home against either Oklahoma State or Connecticut, which will be decided on Monday.

Next Up: Lubbock Super Regional vs. Oklahoma State/Connecticut

Oxford Regional: Mississippi

The Rebels cruised through their home regional with a 3-0 record to advance to a super regional for the first time since 2014, which also happens to be the last time Ole Miss made a trip to the College World Series. It was really never challenged at any point, as it claimed two blowout wins against Jacksonville State and a routine win against Clemson by a combined 41-7 score. Now, the Rebels move on to take on Arkansas next weekend in Fayetteville.

Next Up: Fayetteville Super Regional vs. Arkansas

Baton Rouge Regional: Louisiana State

The Tigers got paired with a couple of potent offenses in Arizona State and Southern Mississippi for their regional, but they tamed those lineups on the way to going 3-0 and advancing to the super regional round. Coming to Baton Rouge this weekend will be Florida State.

Next Up: Baton Rouge Super Regional vs. Florida State

Chapel Hill Regional: North Carolina

The Tar Heels went 3-0 in their home regional, pushing them to a super regional and just one step away from getting to Omaha in back-to-back seasons. The three wins came in three different varieties. UNC walked off UNC Wilmington, 7-6, on Friday, blew out Liberty, 16-1, on Saturday, and won a pitchers' duel with Tennessee, 5-2, on Sunday.

Next Up: Chapel Hill Super Regional vs. Auburn

Morgantown Regional: Duke

The Blue Devils finished a sweep of the Morgantown Regional with a 4-1 win against Texas A&M. After beating two blue-chip pitchers, A&M lefthander John Doxakis and West Virginia righthander Alek Manoah, on back-to-back days, Duke closed out the regional with a sterling pitching performance of its own. In their second super regional in as many years, the Blue Devils will move on to play Vanderbilt.

Next Up: Nashville Super Regional vs. Vanderbilt

Moving to Monday

Los Angeles Regional: UCLA and Loyola Marymount

No. 1 overall seed UCLA fought off elimination with a win against Baylor on Sunday afternoon, and then extended the Los Angeles Regional to Monday with a 6-1 win against Loyola Marymount. UCLA and LMU will play one more time, with the winner moving on to face either Michigan or Creighton in a super regional.

Louisville Regional: Louisville and Illinois State

Louisville began the day by getting past Indiana, 9-7, and finished it by getting exactly what it needed—a routine win over Illinois State that allowed it to save as much pitching as possible for the final game of the regional on Monday. The winner of that rematch will take on the winner of the Greenville Regional, which has also been extended by a day due to weather delays earlier in the weekend.

Oklahoma City Regional: Oklahoma State and Connecticut

UConn pushed the Oklahoma City Regional to a deciding seventh game on Monday with a pair of wins Sunday. To begin, it blew out Nebraska, 16-1. Then, it followed that up by largely quieting the physical Oklahoma State offense on the way to a 5-2 win. On Monday, Oklahoma State and UConn will do it all over again for a spot in a super regional against Texas Tech.

Greenville Regional: East Carolina and Campbell

Because of weather delays on the first day of the tournament, the Greenville Regional has been a game behind from the beginning. Campbell will come into Monday 2-0, which forces East Carolina to have to beat the Camels twice to move on.

Palo Alto Regional: Stanford and Fresno State

With a 12-3 win against Sacramento State to begin Sunday, Stanford made it to a regional final against Fresno State. And with an 8-6 win against the Bulldogs, the Cardinal forced a seventh game of the regional Monday. The winner will advance to the super regional round to take on Mississippi State in Starkville.

2019 NCAA college baseball tournament: Louisville closer controversially ejected with two outs in ninth inning
A pitcher got tossed for two words

Sunday afternoon, Louisville took down Indiana to advance the regional final against Illinois State in the 2019 NCAA college baseball tournament. Along the way, though, Louisville might have suffered a costly blow to its chances at a deep tournament run.

Here is Cardinals closer Michael McAvene expressing his dismay to a called ball by simply saying "that's horrible" and then turning back around immediately. The home plate umpire, however, made quite the spectacle of himself:

As noted in the broadcast, the call probably wasn't "horrible." The umpire's actions after that were. McAvene didn't yell at him, he didn't cuss, he didn't name call, he didn't show him up. He simply said -- as if to himself -- "that's horrible."

This was a heated moment. It's the latter stages of a game where the losing team sees its season end. This is still a college kid. One would hope an umpire tasked with a game like this would be able to give a bit more leeway than to make a scene and toss a kid for this, especially since the rules dictate ...

Yes, four games. A four-game suspension for saying "that's horrible" in a heated moment of an elimination game. Not great, ump.

When your program ranks below Wright State you need to re-assess.
