2019 tOSU Defense (Official Thread)

From the article about Jeff Hafley's defensive philosophy, it sounds like they will often play man on one side and zone on the other, depending on how the offense lines up. Moving White down gives them much more flexibility in this regard.

Most colleges now use a Safety like at LB that covers in space and plays mostly on the wide side of the field

We did something similar to that with Shazier and Lee... basically letting them flow to the football and play head-hunter like a big safety in the box.
Then we got away from it despite freaks like Baker, Worley, Booker, etc. being available.
Loss of Luke hurts.

I think even more importantly is what we lost. And gained. In the coaching department.
Exactly.... it wasn't talent last year.

Personally I blame those responsible for capturing 0 2019 DB commitments.

At DB U no less....

As Gibbs would say from NCIS.. I don't believe in coincidences. We had one year of Taver and Grinch. We ended up with the worse defense ever and ZERO commitments at a position they coach (which we are known for).

Personally, Grinch IMO was ruined when Schiano stuck around and he mailed it in when he had to share the duties.

I'll root for OUs defensive failure for as long as Grinch is there. I do not respect anyone who mails it in on the job.

You have to love how the LB development is sounding thus far... 3 black stripes today, lots of very positive feedback regarding returning players, and lots of spin for the young folks.

Amazing what good fundamental coaching can do.
