2020-2021 Ohio State Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

Buckguy and DZ I was not really referring to the entire schedule but to the home games against those 5-6 teams listed above all of which are home games. Those games with the possible exception of Akron really do a lot for getting people's asses in the seats at the Schott and really put a lot of enthusiasm into the program.
oh, i see what you're getting at. you're absolutely right. the home games suck. it's pretty much the b1g-acc game... and nothing else. oof.

this is one of the drawbacks of playing in a non-conference tournament. i guess we got what we wanted. if not for the three b4a games, we'd probably have at least two home games against noteworthy programs.

I know that we get UNC here also along with a mid ACC team but it still does not make up for the 5 crap games that we are playing at home.
i'm afraid to tell you this, but that unc game won't be at the schott.

You must be forgetting what it was like in seasons like 2010-2011 ... not too long ago, in some years there were as many as 10(!!!!!!!!!!) home nonconference patsies. Five or six home cupcakes is so common among high major programs, it is basically built-in as part of the season for every team. I get your point, you want good home games, and so far there aren't any, and that is a valid point. UNC is a neutral site game. They must have a Challenge home game to balance it out, otherwise there is a hole in the schedule.

This fall, the Buckeyes will play in the eight-team Battle 4 Atlantis event hosted in the Bahamas, also featuring Duke, Creighton, Memphis, Texas A&M, Utah, West Virginia and Wichita State. Early in the 2022-23 season, they're lined up to participate in a yet-to-be-determined Maui Invitational field.

The Bahamas and Maui....nice trips....so far this year I've had 3 vacations (and counting) cancelled....this is me.....

Fort Myers is only about 3 hours away. I think I will attempt to get some tickets to the event.

Re: Wesson, after three years as Ohio State’s starting center, announced his intention to enter the 2020 NBA Draft on April 1. In the near future, he’s expected to sign with an agent, ending any chance of him sticking around in college for his senior season. With his college career wrapped up, it’s up to Chris Holtmann will have to figure out how to move forward without the 6-foot-9, 255-pound big man who’s started the past three years and led the team in both points and rebounds each of the past two seasons.

This isn’t a replacement situation.

Rather, Wesson’s decision to turn pro means the Buckeyes will have to adjust their entire approach on both ends of the court to manage without him. In each of the past two seasons, Ohio State ran its offense through him and relied on him as a rim protector whose defense and rebounding as a junior sometimes went undervalued due to his lack of shot-blocking acumen.

Just sayin': Good analysis on the situation of the 2020-2021 basketball team. Yeah, the biggest loss isn't any of the transfers, it's Kaleb Wesson.

Trying to remember the last off-season OSU basketball had with so many lingering injury/health questions hovering over the outlook.

A 247 insider checked in on status of guys and while it sounds like Kyle Young is pretty much good now, all three of Towns, Jallow, and Sueing still have a long way to go with their rehab.

think two factors largely determine next season's success:

1. health - lots of wing depth, but also lots of wing injuries. if at least sueing and towns are healthy for most of the season (including the end), then i'm optimistic. if we can't count on those two to be healthy, however, then it could get ugly. i hate to say it, but i think jallow, ahrens, and brown (and porter, for that matter) will mostly fill minor roles. anything more will be a bonus, though jallow should average 12+ minutes if he's in top shape. on the other hand, could see brown finding immediate minutes if his mind is right. it's always a guess with freshmen.

2. zed key's impact - hope diallo surprises, but i think all non-liddell/young minutes will go to key. for osu to be a competitive, top-25 kind of team, we need production (not just a body) beyond our two power forwards. i'll be a little surprised if key doesn't prove to be a consistent contributor right out of the gate. with kaleb's minutes now free for whoever wants them, key has a great opportunity to make a name for himself as one of the conference's top surprises.

expecting an average-sized rotation next year. below are the guys i think coach will rely on in tight match-ups. wish we had either muhammad or especially carton. the talent is a little too thin up top for my liking.

walker
washington
sueing
towns
jallow
liddell
young
key

my very, extremely, and stupidly early prediction that has absolutely nothing at all to do with my current state of boredom:

osu will have yet another ho1tmannesque season. a season just like the first three. peaks, valleys, strong concerns, plenty of doubts, and some uplifting moments, culminating in an overall "good" season. not great. not bad. good.

the uniform, mild consistency of which starts to make things slightly uneasy like room-temperature mayonnaise. which also makes the 2021-22 season the most important of ho1tmann's career.
