2022 College Football Polls

Agreed on ZS. I've been really enjoying his podcast this year. You're absolutely right that the 'character(?)' is a bit obnoxious but he really does dial into the technical analysis and actually watches film before he spouts off on topics. Biggest downside to the Menace 2 Sports style is it's very much a younger generation presentation and I often feel like I'm watching my son and his friends discuss football. Just makes me feel old since much of the slang and lingo is over my head

I get that. And at 50+ I’m nowhere near as hip as I used to be. But I will say that the way he throws around F-bombs… he’d fit in the middle of many of my conversations.

And man, I don’t know anyone who as a hard on for seeing Gattis getting exposed at Miami the size of his. He (seemingly) HATES that guy.

"Some people probably think LSU should be in the top four." - ESPN talking head.

Those people would be morons. LSU lost to Florida State and got blown out by Tennessee. "But OMG, beat Alabama tonight!"

Not that it matters, but here’s how I’d rank the top-15 now. Not a prediction, just my evaluation.

01. Georgia
02. tOSU
03. TTUN
04. TCU
05. Tenn
06. Oregon
07. LSU
08. USC
09. Ole Miss
10. Bama
11. UCLA
12. Clemson (probably won’t drop this far, but they should)
13. Utah
14. Penn St
15. N. Carolina

Hell, I think Utah and Penn State are better teams than Clemson.

So is the playoff this year going to be Georgia v B10 CCG loser and B10 CCG winner v Tennessee?
Yeah. There is the potential for Georgia v The Game loser and The Game winner v Vols.
Would require the game to be close, Georgia and vols to win out, and tcu to drop a game. All 3 of those are on their own each more than 50% likely, but as a parlay probably around 20%.
May also require an upset or two in the pac. 11-1 usc and Oregon are sneaky.

There is an article on the front page that has, IMHO, a part of the answer to this. Below is a shorthand version of it.

Those who know football well enough to be good coaches tend to coach football until:
  1. No one will pay them to do it anymore, or
  2. People pay them to NOT do it anymore
The practical upshot of this is that most people who know the sport well enough to do good analysis are still in coaching, regardless of age. Most people with baggage will take a job below what they're otherwise qualified for (Kevin Wilson) rather than quit the profession. If there's enough baggage, or if they can't handle the pressure of coaching, they end up as one of the few good analysts. Of those few good analysts, those who are sufficiently professional (a VERY small number) end up at big outfits like Fox or ESPN that have a very dim view of the average fan's intelligence and thus force them to dumb down their analysis.

1. As for coaches who hang on, how many jobs can a phys ed major find that pay you 8 figures?
2. Listening to sports analysts forces me to remember that I was a track coach. But then I forget and post something on BP.
