2022 College Football Polls

Very good discussion here. Part of it is who is good right now. Had ND beat Clemson week 1-3 and then lost to Ohio State, Marshall, Stanford I'd have them out.

The 2017 Iowa is an interesting point and makes me think on it more as they did dominate that game. They had 3 close losses and 1 good win, and Ohio State had 2 blowout losses and 1 good win. As another data point, OSU and Iowa had played a few common opponents prior to the game, and OSU handled all of them better. Ohio state had also dominated other opponents and looked like a top 10 team, and Iowa hadn't. That makes it a little more even when factoring in total body of work. I would say looking back at it I would have put a 6-3 Iowa over a 7-2 Ohio State that week (until they got hammered by Wisky the next week).

Yes ND dominated Clemson, but they also have been more dominant over 2 common opponents. ND lost 2 games they should have won, and lost 1 game they should have lost, and has looked like shit every time they weren't playing an ACC school. Clemson also has looked like shit week in and week out. If they had dominated through the year and had a fluke of a bad game, I would keep them in the top 10. So it's the head to head, but also a total body of work that makes me think ND is a better team at this point in the season even with the losses. Clemson could take it as a kick in the nuts and dominate the next few weeks. ND could get a big head and drop to USC. Either of those would change my opinion.
Notre Dame has thumped three ACC teams, beat UNLV by almost the same score that they beat Syracuse and was lucky to get past Cal. The BYU win has lost it's luster too. Their best "win" was actually a loss by only losing by 11 at the shoe.

Perhaps Freeman is beginning to find his feet after a very rude awakening. Notre Dame today is a much better team that the team that bet its identity on beating Ohio State and failed to do so. I believe that they will be ranked by year end, much as it disappoints me to say.

ND is actually #25 in the Coaches poll that came out yesterday, and #20 in the AP.

I still say, first game of the season a 21-10 loss against a top 5 team is better than loses to Stanford and Marshall at home. I'll add agan, they barely beat a very bad Cal team at home. It looks to me that the ACC is even worse than the Pac 12 this year.

Losing to Marshall and Stanford and going undefeated through their mini-ACC schedule would be… what’s the word… hilarious?

Matchups make the games almost as much as talent does. Run heavy teams like TTUN and Penn State are the toughest matchups for Ohio State because they typically have at least a little of both. Still, occasionally, run heavy teams like ND, Wisconsin, Minnesota and NW have some success against us because of how we're built. The pass heavy teams, aside from the Purdue anomaly, usually get ran by the Bucks for the same reasons. Bama is obviously the outlier because they have a ton of talent and ability to usually do both so I don't count that one and we only play them when everything is on the line.

I guess I dont get too bent out of shape when a team that perfects their identity in a game against us as much as some others do except for the fact that we absolutely know what they are going to do and sometimes look like we weren't ready for it. All those kids are on scholarship too and they are going to win some battles but when the schemes are shit against obvious gameplans, it is definitely maddening.

Your last four words are all it takes to leave TCU out IMHO

This comes down to three questions
  • How many games did you lose?
  • Who did you play?

  • Margins of victory etc…
TCU opened with dog shit Colorado, then played something called Tarleton State - is that a school or some off brand cigarette? then SMU, then Oklahoma, putting 50+ on the Sooners, but giving up 24 to an offense that couldn't do shit against Texas a week later. They then beat Kansas by 7, Okie State by 3, WVU, and KState by 10.

Overall, who they played doesn't differ much from who the Bucks and Michigan played with one exception, I don't think they played anyone that wouldn't get beat by Penn State. Looks like I may have to root for Texas this weekend as Baylor and Iowa State don't look capable of beating them.[/QUOTE]

Final committee would reshuffle and Ohio State would play TCU (assuming osu wins out, including, of course, a victory in The Game.
Yeah if I’m gonna be cheering someone on it’s tcu. First, fuck Texas. But second if Georgia and tcu win out, then the winner of the game gets tcu in the fiesta bowl. Yeah I’ll take that as a first round matchup. Georgia can either play Tennessee again or a pac champ.

that said tcu probably gonna lose before the season is out.
